i suspect the Dems may end up being an ultra-leftist-only party, driving out ALL candidates who aren’t ultra-leftist, and in the process, shedding all voters who aren’t ultra-leftist ...

the question though becomes: what happens to all of those lifelong, multi-generational Dems such as Jews, blacks, hispanics and others who fundamentally have conservative family values thought not necessarily conservative political values?

if many of those folks sit out the 2020 election or actually vote Republican, then they’ve broken their lifelong voting pattern, and subsequent eschewal of voting Democrat again becomes MUCH easier ... many of these folks may never come back to the Democrats again ... most likely, many will eventually change their registration to unaffiliated or independent because formation of viable 3rd parties at this stage of the game is impossible for all practical purposes ...
