For later viewing. Thanks for posting.
On the east coast in the 1930s going into World War II there was a very large presence of both communist and Nazi party type organizations especially around New York City. Look up what both Grumman and curtiss-wright had to implement for anti-sabotage programs during World War II. My neighbor growing up was a retired machinist for IBM at the Poughkeepsie New York plant
He said early on there were numerous instances of American Nazi Party members intentionally making parts wrong for M1 carbines, they ended it by basically being in the cr@p out of them in the parking lot
I would have to agree with that...I think the depression installed a degree of spartan existence coupled with long-term uncertainty, which I agree would indeed “toughen” people.
Wow. They were lucky they didn’t get a visit from the Feds and a lengthy prison sentence, never mind a baseball bat to the back of the head by someone whose son was serving.
AFAIK, the communists were greater in far larger numbers than the Nazis ever were, ESPECIALLY around large centers like New York (garment industries were a key for communists)
I was thinking more along the lines of the 1943 mine workers strike...coal was absolutely critical to war industry and the government had to take over the mines (accomplished by the scum bag Secretary of The Interior Harold Ickes...yes...the father of the hyper-leftist Harold Ickes who was a Deputy Chief of Staff for Bill Clinton, and his father was as big a scum and leftist as he was)
Great post just a little before my time.
Cool. Watch “On the Town” 1949 for New York in the 40’s.....
That’s so interesting!
Really fun to watch - virtually everyone wore a hat and looked respectable.
What? No PJs at WalMart?
Very interesting!
And not ONE Duane Reade or Starbucks!
