But — they don’t do it to make it better for you, for traffic, for cars. They do it to make it greener, with less pollution, more room to walk and bike, AND they get big money to do it, I’ll bet my bottom dollar.
Round-abouts are the same, and I bet there is government money in those too. Matters not if those roads get icy, criss-cross so cars slide into others or cannot stop. Make it more like Europe. why? I hate those things.
We have a roundabout here where they didn’t take into consideration that buses cannot get into it, they are too big. So the buses literally drive over the curb and through the center of the roundabout to get to the other side.
We also have a “traffic-calming” bulbout which blocks fire engines trying to get from a nearby fire station. Again the fire trucks have to drive over the bulbout.
haha, I love it. My sister lives in Grand Junction, CO. They put a round-about in there as you get off the freeway. I swear, it is a figure 8 with parts coming up and over. All you need is to lock your brakes on the ice and you’d take out the guy coming in from the other side. REAL dumb. And there are lots of trucks going through there. They don’t stop fast on a dry street.
Yes, 4 lanes into 2 plus wasted space in the middle and unused bike lanes on the edges. We have one going into town - we are up against the mountains, so it is very steep the last few miles. And close enough to the commuters/ freeway/ highways that no bicyclist in his right mind would ride it. We never ever see bikers, tho there are plenty going along the foothills.
Wonder where the money comes from.
I love this visual!!
