One of my daughter’s friend became schizophrenic around 17yo. He would come visit us and was ok on his meds. Then he would go on and off his meds. His dad didnt allow him to enter his house and when he turned 18 quit helping him financially, even though he was a wealthy man. I think he was embarrassed by having a son like that. The kid’s mom tried to keep him on his meds, etc., but he got mad at her and left.

My daughter was visiting her dad at the time, and the kid knocks on my door asking to stay with me for a little while so he could look for a job. I let him, and everything was ok for awhile, then I told him to do some minor thing, and I thought he was going to kill me. I was very scared. Later, I called his mom and told her what happened, and she said he probably felt free to act that way as he probably considered me as a second mom. I felt sorry for her, but with the help of her and a Male friend of mine we took him back to his mom’s.

He was homeless for awhile after that, finally found a home that took good care of people with problems, and he lives a somewhat normal life. He still calls or emails my daughter after all these years.

My oldest has suffered from bipolar for many years. He does ok on his meds, but it took a long time for him to realize that he has to stay on them. I always told him that just because it’s a mental illness, it’s ok, just like diabetes and other illnesses he had to keep on his medication. There were some heartbreaking times for us, his family.

💕💕💕💕its difficult. When paul was admitted to ER, the Dr asked if there was any mental illness in the family. Told him half the family was bat shit crazy and what wasn't were genius. He roared and ask how we told the difference. I said it was the medicines we took. Some of us delight in our lunacy/eccentricities. 😜😳
