@Comey & his pictures- a short thread. Lots of people are unaware of the true purpose of those ‘goofy random thoughts’ posted at pictures.

There’s much more, below the surface. Literally.

We know that @comey has spent a lifetime as a Clinton fixer, & was a principal in the effort to fix the outcome of the 2016 election, & when that failed, he became a key plotter/participant in the coup against @realDonaldTrump while dir of @FBI

He wasnt in this alone- he had multiple co-conspirators at @FBI & @TheJusticeDept & @CIA & outside if government- people like Hayden, & Ben Wittes & lawfareblog.

@comey as @FBI director involved w abuse of and misuse of @nsagov databases & illegal use of & fraudulent obtaining of FISA warrants against his political enemies would be keenly aware of the electronic surveillance capabilities the US Govt possesses.

This would inform his decisions on how to covertly exchange information & communicate w co-conspirators. Obviously normal use of electronic communications would be subject to intercept & be made avail to @JusticeOIG & @TheJusticeDept & @FBI for ongoing crime investigations.

This demonstrates a need for an unconventional communications channel that could be overlooked, & provide seperation between those he’s communicating with.

Anyone with a decent knowledge of signals intelligence, communications intelligence & electronic warfare understands the importance of metadata.

And thats attempt #1 by twitter to break this thread up. Lets move on.

One thing you’ll notice about Comey’s picture tweets is they’re pretty innocuous- no recipients, no tags, no addressees. At least, not *directly* but more on that in a bit.

Have a look at them, closely-

Note the picture files *appear* bland, mundane. Seemingly harmless, designed not to draw a lot of attention.

Note the same is true of the text/verbiage attached to the tweet. These are coded messages. They’re meant for specific recipients not specified. That part is obvious to most, but most are missing the big part.

Second attempt at breaking the thread noted. Comey & his coconspirators would need a way to communicate in plain sight. The words would be carefully scrutinized but what about the pictures?

Steganography- software programs that take text encrypt it, compress it, & bury/hide it within the pixelation of the photo.

The pictures contain the encrypted message. The cryptic verbiage of the tweet alerts the intended recipient(s) & gives context to the recipient(s). In the Intelligence world this is known as ‘tradecraft’.

Comey is using a specific *kind* of tradecraft. Trivia time: can anyone tell me what method the biggest Soviet spy in US History, counter intelligence @FBI agent Robert Hanssen used to communicate with his Soviet handlers?

Ah, and to further iterate: Because of advancements in cyber warfare tech and Trump getting a good level of control, low-tech tradecraft would be the way to go.

Anything passing over the internet leaves fingerprints but a missing object doesn't necessarily.

Pictures, thumb-drives with file copies, network passwords, Iso files used for backup by IT staff, etc.

Once the containing object is gone there is no record accept evidence left behind at the scene of the dead drop.
