Our system of government (pretty much all of them in the modern world) have military justice as a backstop. The military thugs with the guns come in and run the show until the civilian thugs with the guns get back in order.
POTUS has never telegraphed his intentions to the enemy. Remember the MOAB strike in Syria? So, why now? Why is he saying he MAY have to release the documents AT THE RIGHT TIME? Seems to me, it’s beyond time to reveal the truth of the corruption in the DOJ and CIA and the right time is TODAY. No warnings, no threats, just do it. This statement was just warm spit - not what I’ve come to expect of my President. Disappointing.
Thanks! That’s what it seems like. After the MSM’s coordinated effort to falsely portray a fake “house of cards” falling in on Trump, I think he wanted to explain to We the People why he was going to release the docs - the MSM would distort it and portray it as wild irrational flailing on his part.
I am reminded that during the Salem Witch trials, most were convicted on “spectral evidence”. I had thought that was outlawed shortly thereafter. Perhaps it is being reintroduced via the MSM.
Americans love an underdog, especially one who suddenly roars back to fight and destroy the enemy. CINC’s done this a few times, let the MSM give him a thousand papercuts plus a few shivs (and us ulcery heartburn} before he chiliwomps them when the timing is right.

This time, POTUS was telegraphing his reasoning to We the People. The MSM has been wall-to-wall hatin’ on POTUS and they would pounce on any decision to release documents and portray it as a wild thrashing around to distract from the FAKE house-of-cards narrative they’ve built. He needed to get in front of the people and show his rational in-control demeanor in order to defuse that.

Ex Parte Quirin established the principle that, in times of war, enemy agents can be tried by military courts. Such defendants do not have the right to a civil jury trial, although the decisions of the courts martial are subject to review by civilian courts.
The eight saboteurs applied to the District Court of the District of Columbia for permission to file petitions for habeas corpus, challenging their confinement, in the U.S. Supreme Court. When the district court turned them down, they applied directly to the Supreme Court. In their petitions, they challenged the authority of the president to set up the military tribunal and asserted their right under the Fifth and Sixth Amendments to trial by jury, a procedure with more safeguards than are observed in military courts.
The military trial went forward, even while the Supreme Court considered their petitions. By 27 July 1942, all the evidence had been submitted at the military trial. The case was closed except for the arguments of prosecutors and defense lawyers. On 28 July 1942, the Supreme Court met in special session to consider the saboteurs’ petitions. (This was an ex parte proceeding because the petitioners were not present, having been confined in military prisons.) The Court rejected all eight. Six of the prisoners were executed a little more than a week later.
