Stands to reason, Knight were officers of the kingdom.

"Knight" is a Germanic term, knecht. Same concept. Language origin in Britain is a huge mess, which is a main reason why English is the language of global business and science.

Speaking of knights, Boone had a supporting role in a movie called "The War Lord" starring Charlton Heston.
Recommended viewing imo.

[Paladin means Knight in Scotish, his name was never revealed on the show, remember the knight on his holster?]
I always thought it was a Mercenary Knight. That would fit the concept of the show.

Except in one episode, he teamed up with a bad guy to go up against a worse guy, and they stole all his money.

Interesting, especially since my wife lived next door to him for 4 months back around 1995 in Palm Springs. Met him several times.

Might have been a look a like that took his name. Impersonators do that.

I read in Webster’s one definition of a Paladin is “a leading champion of a cause”.

Gene Roddenberry wrote some of the first episodes.
I read that Richard Boone helped write the title song.

About 10% of the episodes were written by Gene Roddenberry!
Boone said of his [later] Hec Ramsey character, "Same thing, only fatter"

Yes he did, I mostly try and pay attention to the credits in those old shows.Paladin, gunsmoke, rawhide were all done by CBS, lot of the same writers , actors and directors in the mid to late 50’s.
