Slavery is one of the most hideous evils ever devised by man or the devil. Give thanks that it is nonexistent in the USA and the rest of the civilized world. Pray that one day it will be nonexistent everywhere and forever.
To: Nifster
There is not one race of people on earth that has not at some point in time been held in slavery, and there is not one race on earth that has not held slaves at some point.

In some ways yes....had white people not been willing to pay for slaves there wouldnt have been a market Umm, no. There would have been a market. Just as there had been for hundreds of years before the US. It just not have been here.

The reason she was enslaved was because she was unequal. She and her’s were inferior to those that enslaved them

Obama’s ancestral tribe in Kenya is said to have been Muslim and have been slavers in that their main means of income was capturing other Africans and selling them into slavery.

Lot of hypocrites
Importing of slaves was outlawed by constitution in 1808
Smuggling of slaves continued for 50 years, until Civil War
put end to it. Many prominent business people in places like NY would invest in such deals. Would buy a ship, build
tiers of bunks in holds, hire captain and crew
When confronted by naval frigate would often dump the slaves
overboard to get rid of evidence

I don’t believe that is correct. Many slaves were sold to other Africans, Arabs and Orientals.

Also little known is the fact that 95% of the slaves shipped across the Atlantic were bound for other places. The US/Colonies only took about 5% of those "imports".

No to mention the Arabs emasculated a significant portion of their black African slaves and turned them into eunochs to guard their harems which were full of horny women.

While probably true, when the tribes found out they could get money for them, they may have started capturing and selling people they wouldn’t have normally went after.

Then, he would probably have been slave of some black dude, presuming he'd been allowed to live. I don't buy any of the race guilt.

I’ve never heard of a slave ship landing in the US in 1860.

Hurstons use of vernacular dialogue in both her novels and her anthropological interviews was often controversial, as some black American thinkers at the time argued that this played to black caricatures in the minds of white people. Hurston disagreed, and refused to change Lewis dialectwhich was one of the reasons a publisher turned her manuscript down back in the 1930s. Many decades later, her principled stance means that modern readers will get to hear Lewis story the way that he told it.Kudos to her for remaining true to "primary sources"
