Reality... Tonya Harding was 15 when Jeff Gillooly approached her at the rink she was practicing at. She had never had a boyfriend and was smitten. The evidence that she knew of the attack beforehand is scant. The fact that a wife learns of a husband’s misdeed and conceals it is hardly unusual. Most people think that Harding herself was the one who kneecapped Kerrigan. She may have that Gillooly was trying to intimidate Kerrigan with threatening letters, but that she most likely had no idea that the idiots who were surrounding would actually attack her. Harding didn’t cheat, but the entire skating establishment did. In 1990 she should have won the national championship but was low-balled by the judges. Don’t believe me? Watch for yourself on YT.

I don’t disagree with your surmisals.
Skaters in general have no social lives, because their time is dedicated to their sport, much like other young athletes.
They’re not socially adept.
