This is an oblique departure from the question at hand. Nobody was expected to give up anything.
Yes, they were.
This lady wants to occupy 2 seats with her one butt.
And expects everyone else to make nice about it.
Just because she can’t or won’t stop eating.
She’s not blind. She’s not handicapped. She’s not disabled.
She has an addiction.
If you allow her to literally steal a seat you’re enabling her.
Just like picking up after a drunk person or paying a drug addict’s rent.
You’re not doing her any favors.
You’re literally killing her with ‘kindness’ and ‘accomodation’.

I’ve been around food/drug/alcohol addicts my entire life.
I know about enabling.
It’s not Christian to enable an addict.
It’s the devil telling you to do that.
And it’s not just the mineral deficiencies she’s got a likely issue with.
Big Obesity (pharma, medical, food industries) depends on propagating bad advice and medicating a problem that isn’t medical. (the 6 small meals (so your pancreas never stope secreting insulin which leads to insulin resistance), ‘healthy whole grains 7+ servings or 300g of carbs a day (so your pancreas gets a giant bolus of glucose to handle every time you eat, etc) It’s dietary. Obesity isn’t a medical handicap. It’s a dietary problem. But there’s WAY too much money in ‘treating’ a dietary problem with medical intervention for any of the REAL working solutions to be tried. And no, for most everyone, counting calories and eating 1000 calories of rabbit food for the rest of your life isn’t a working solution. Been there, done that.
It isn’t Christian to stand by and ‘accomodate’ while 30yr olds weigh 400+lbs and take literally a handful of meds for diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure along with circulatory issues AND inject insulin. But I guarantee you SOMEONE is making a HUGE profit from that person’s medical conditions and the social security actuaries are dancing in the streets knowing that obese person likely will not live to see 65yrs of age.
But if this lady and her friends manage to make a dietary problem into a ‘protected class’, you haven’t BEGUN to pay enough for that yet. Every single fixture, doorway and seating arrangement will have to accomodate 600lb+ people. Or else.
At least until the 700lb people get their undies in a twist and sue. Then they’ll have to be ripped out and redone to accomodate the 700lb’ers.

My Wife has been told she is Pre Diabetic and they are monitoring her A1C (?). She isn’t adjusting her Diet as much as she should, but I ceased nagging her about it when all it did was get her mad at me. LOL.

I’ve supplemented with both of those for years. Still wildly insulin resistant.
Look up ‘Dr. Fung’ on youtube.
Know how the bible says fast one day a week? THAT’s the cure for insulin resistance. Along with NOT eating 6 small meals per day. Or eating trans fats.
What’s FIXING my insulin resistance pronto, that I never would have done if I’d listened to ‘medical assvice’ is fasting. I’ve lost 30+lbs and now stand closer to ‘non obese’ than I have been in 20+ years. I’m currently on day 4 of a 7 day fast. Water fasting. And amazingly enough it’s all from my giant insulin resistant belly. And thanks to autophagy (look that one up), I have zero issues with excess skin anywhere so far. And it’s ‘doable’ indefinitely. Doesn’t require special expensive meals or measuring this or that small tiny amount of rabbit food for the rest of my life. When I break my fast I eat really good quality low carb (keto) food. I’d been doing keto since November and lost some weight but being middle aged it wasn’t moving along with any great speed. I thank God for the freeper who pointed me toward Dr. Fung’s lectures and blog.
One of my great aunts fasted. We thought she was kinda nutso. She lived to be 6 months shy of 100years old. With zero medical issues. No BP meds, no diabetes, not really even any arthritis until she was near passing. No heart issues, no hip replacements no knee replacements, nada. Died peacefully in her sleep. And sharp as a tack till the last 6m of her life.
I realize now that’s because she fasted 2 days per week and did what we now call intermittent fasting the other 5 days a week. She never ate anything after 4pm. She had full siblings and children who didn’t follow her eating plan. All were overweight/obese by their 50’s. Her doctor tried for years to get her to follow ‘standard dietary advice’. She basically told him to sod off for that. She ate lard, despised vegetable oils (they taste weird she said), ate butter and lots and lots of bacon. Never larger than a size 8 her whole life.
If your wife follows the ADA diet plan it’s assured that she will become a full fledged t2d. No doubt about that. It’s baked into the plan.
Look up ‘Jason Fung’ on youtube. And the internet.

My diabetes is better than it has been. My A1C has run 5.0 or less for years now. But it was my out of control insulin levels (that oddly enough no one ever checks, hmmm) that were causing my giant belly and obesity issues. Protein will generate an insulin response, just not as much of one as a carb load. I never realized that and was eating WAY too much protein for my age in particular. I eat a lot more olive oil and pork belly now for calories. Along with green bean vinaigrette. I’ve got a yen for that now. Green bean vinaigrette with chunks of pork belly is just this side of heaven IMHO.

Just like the "university" that decreed that speaking and writing proper English is "white privilege," racist and discriminatory, so it should not adversely affect the grades of the illiterate.
The cruel reality is that in addition to the STEM subjects, failure to read and write proper English in ANY job requiring effective communication is a certain long term employment FAIL.
