As to the poofter, George Michael...
He wasn’t always a poofter! When he was younger, he was very much hetero. There are stories, interviews and reports of him being very much a horn dog towards the ladies when he was in his teens and early 20’s. It wasn’t until later that his door started swinging both ways.
Careless Whisper was written by him when he was 17. Music and lyrics. The iconic sax solo came to him first. He wrote the song in his head.
Say what you will about his sexual proclivities, and you could say a lot, but he was a very talented musician.
What instrument did he play?
What instrument did he play?
He played guitar, bass and keyboards on many of his recordings.
That's certainly true.
Aaaand here it is!! Love both the original and this one:
It would definitely get me out of the store faster.
I love that this thread has surpassed 500 replies.
Yes! 80s music lovers and haters unite!
Wait. Did I say worst? I meant to say BEST!
Gotta add to this, though it’s very late.
Just finished a ‘70s poll, which followed on the ‘80s poll of music I did 3 years ago. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3265766/posts
I just have to go through that list (which I think are good songs):
Astley - #4 ON THE YEAR
Taco - #31 ON THE YEAR (Man this was huge)
Basil/Mickey - #36 ON THE YEAR (again, huge)
McFerrin/Happy - #37 ON THE YEAR
6. Falco - ‘Rock Me Amadeus’...#28 ON THE YEAR (huge again)
5. Men Without Hats - ‘The Safety Dance’...#35 ON THE YEAR (Huge!)
4. Wham! - ‘Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)’....#3 ON THE YEAR (Huge debut for Wham)
3. Chris de Burgh - ‘Lady In Red’....#21 ON THE YEAR
2. Europe - ‘The Final Countdown’...#8 peak weekly
1. Starship - ‘We Built This City’...#14 ON THE YEAR
So, all of these songs EXCEPT Final Countdown (not surprised; I hardly recall this myself) finished high up for the year!
What a bunch of whiny snobs!
I hated that darn song. One of the worst.
Danced my first slow dance to this song. It’s very nostalgic for me because a lot of drama was going on with boys around this time lol. Other than that I did not care for “Wham.”
I LOVED that song. It was magical for some reason lol.
We saw them last summer as one of the groups playing an outdoor fest. “White rabbit” was a little before my time when it came out but it was my favorite of their songs sung that night.
