Moore's opposition wants to smear him with behavior that was not considered illegal or untoward from a different era against standards in place in the society today.
There is no evidence that he did anything wrong to any of these four women.
If I was an Alabama voter, I would be pissed that the GOPe and the Washington comPost tried to smear their preferred candidate and portray the state as full of red-necks and backwoods hicks who prey on young girls. Neither is the case.
If I lived in Alabama, I would have to hold my nose to vote for the democRAT or the GOP establishment guy, not Moore. Moore's got a solid conservative record. He will get elected next month unless the traitors in his own party continue to stab him in the back.
Well in point of fact, Joseph became the step-father of Jesus. And while I don't claim to be an expert on the Bible I have read a lot of it and I don't seem to recall where Joseph and Mary's ages were mentioned.
I don’t believe it has been normal behavior for a 32 year old man to date a young teen 40 years ago. In the 1800s, perhaps. It wasn’t illegal, but it is unseemly. I can’t believe he couldn’t find young ladies in their twenties to date.
Based on your logic, I probably wouldn't be here to be arguing this point but for the grace of God. Why? Because my mom, bless her soul, dipped down into the cradle and dated and then married my dad who is 14 years younger than she is. They were married for 55 years and had three kids before she passed away.
Be careful about bringing your "feelings" in on this thing. It may seem unseemly to you based on your mores, religion or background but it was not illegal or improper, including among the Christian community, in Alabama.
In the eyes of the law and the culture, he was behaving properly and as a gentleman. You try to base it on today's standards and maybe that's not the case. But this was four decades ago, not today.
"Girls" who became age 16 and above were considered at the age of consent and were then considered "women". They could date and marry without needing their parent's consent.
But in all of these cases dragged up by the WashCommiePost, the women all say he had their parent's consent.
Just as there are those in this society who think sending a grown man into the girls restroom is okay while others think it is an abomination, there are going to be opposing viewpoints on this issue as well.
Moore will be elected in December, because the voters of Alabama don't look at his situation in the same light as you do.
