I’m happy for your success, GSC. I hope your trip to East Africa is exciting and wonderful. God bless.
Particularly when you're younger.
Amazing-—and you are right——I hadn’t bought a kid a sneaker since the 70s.
They were footwear,not a symbol.

You know,it would sometimes be useful for us on FR to know how old (or *about* how old) a particular person whose post catches your eye is.I think the subject of money might be a subject where that would apply.IMO money is a subject in which attitudes can be quite different between generations.
I'm much,*much* closer to the grave than to the cradle so my attitude may very well be more conservative and cautious than that of one who's noticeably younger.
Point taken and understood, but the article was about a kid getting his ass kicked by some punks who wanted his shoes.
When I was that boy’s age I spent my free time working on the family farm. My money came hard and I never would have considered spending a bunch of it on some stupid shoes.
But if one of my buddies wanted to spend his money on stupid stuff I figure that was his business.
Understood. And yes,I did go off the rails a bit.But as I noted in an earlier post it was so obvious to me that the theft was so nauseating that it didn't really warrant a response.
Maybe I'm just gettin' old and insist on harping on the good old days when I walked 9 miles to school,in the snow.
