Water temp in LIS is 78°F now.

Every fall & winter we have unprepared hunters who go out duck hunting [water temp 35*F, run into some bad weather on the Sound and end up dead; frequently their dogs are found safe later.

Labs and Goldens are hearty swimmers, summer & winter. That fawn is probably 40#; that’s quite a haul, even for an experienced water dog; weather does not seems to be a factor in this case. Don’t know how many yards the dog swam.

FWIW, one less white-tail would be a good thing. But the story is cute nevertheless.

Have you read “Reveille” by Nelson DeMille? It was the most chilling Viet Nam story I’ve ever read.

You are welcome.

Newfs are highly regarded as water rescue dogs

The dog was thinking "LUNCH!"

Did you watch the video?

For that dog, lunch comes out of a can or a bag.

“Have you read “Reveille” by Nelson DeMille?...”

I have not, but I’ll go online today and find it at the local library. It’ll go to the beach with me next week.

Thank you.

If you think of it, would you tell me if you thought it was worth the recommendation?

I had a Newfie mix that HATED water. I also had a full Newfie that didn’t get excited about anything.

I couldn't find "Reveille" by DeMille at our library or onlne.

Could it have been "Up Country"? That's a post-Vietnam War novel.

Oops! My error. It’s “Rendezvous.” My abject apologies. (Red face.) Also, it’s a short story. The aging brain is a challenge...

“Oops”

Hah! That’s alright.

I boarded a flight a couple years back, sat in the first row of coach, pulled out a Nelson DeMille novel while waiting for pushback. The flight attendant was standing right there and asked if I liked John Corey novels. I said I’d never read one. She looked at me kind of strange. I started reading and soon realized I’d read the book before. It was one of DeMille’s “John Corey” series (which I’d really liked).

Will look for “Rendezvous” and let you know how it read.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your charitable attitude.

Patrick Robinson did a whizzbzngwhoppadoozie job developing the characters in his 2000 novel, “U.S.S. Seawolf.”

I also enjoyed Pat Conroy’s novels, and a novel called, “The Expats,” by Chris Pavone.

I’m a little old lady, so if stories about Viet Nam, nuclear subs and spies interest me, they’d probably interest anyone.

Do you have any recommendations for me?

I like:

Lee Child...the Jack Reacher series
Michael Connelly...Harry Bosch series
John Connolly...Charlie Parker series
James Lee Burke...Dave Robicheaux series
John Sandford...Lucas Davenport series

Anything the authors above wrote outside of the series I mentioned is fair game too.

Trash novels for sure, but good reading.
