> Jeez, is that a hologram?
No, that’s Hatsune Miku. A fellow Freeper turned me onto her in a thread similar to this one many years ago. Her stage performances use industrial video projectors into a rear projection film coated with nanolenses called a Dilad screen. The cost on each projector is in the 6 figure range and the screen is priced at around $150 per sq.ft.
Technically the effect looks like a hologram but it does not involve the interference of coherent light nor is it a form of Pepper’s Ghost. I have heard that it looks way more impressive live than it does in video.
One other form of projection was used at Miku’s fifth anniversary concert at Yokohama harbor. It used huge video projectors (possibly converted searchlights fired into LCD panels) and lasers beaming into a three dimensional water screen. Again the video is said not to do the live view justice.
Here’s a link to a concert from Shanghai in 2016. If memory serves it sold out in just a few hours and seats were going for up to several hundred dollars (US equivalent)

Unfortunately it looks like the complete Yokohama concert was pulled from Youtube but here’s a link to a 30 or 40 foot tall Miku performing to another sellout crowd.

I’ve thought the song on the radio was awesome for decades, but hasn’t seen the video. Thanks for posting

Some Beatles songs...
If someone could post the video from riptide, it reminds me of some great movies made by idiot actors. Seven psychos. Now you see me
I haven’t been to bed, so it’s Saturday for me
I was too young for that at the time, actually thought this song was scary, I was that young. Without the bad associations that you have, I only hear the power of it as an adult, it’s just a remarkable song.
Did you notice Billy Preston on piano? He was worried there for a minute when she appeared to be losing it, then that big smile when she pulled it back together.
Very impressive, so technological.
Another one of mine, this is from a classically trained singer/songwriter who for most would be associated with the sort of pleasant, light pop you’d hear in a retail store. But here, she just rips her heart out, really affecting. The video only adds to the overall feel of it:
Ingrid Michaelson - Ghost (Live From Laurel Canyon)
LOL, definitely weird! For some reason, I felt like I was watching that video for 40 years.
Just for fun - “Knockers’ Up” by Rusty Warren
Let’s see how many of you old guys remember this from the 50’s.
Haven’t heard the last one. But let’s not forget his seminal song, King of the Road.

Used to play that song King of the road on mu guitar..
Good night, sleep tight.
When I watched if I remembered it reminded me of Van helsing. My favorite Hugh Jackman movie. As far as I know he isn’t in the idiot actor group...
That’s a sweet old near-nonsense song that my grandmother used to sing to me. Thanks for posting it.
Wow. Was that a talent show? Amazing adaptation of metal to their culture.
