Hitting your adult step-mom in self-defense when you were sixteen because she was coming at you with a knife is very different from an adult man grabbing a knife from his girlfriend and hacking her to death with it.
Also, at 16 you were a minor and your step-mother was an adult with authority over you in your home. This guy was the adult boyfriend who could have just walked out the door to his car and returned to his home.
No question he should not have been there. That was why I started with “from the moment she picked up the knife...”
Sounds like he showed up and did a forceful charm offensive. Then when she found out he was chatting around and started slapping him he assaulted her back then refused to simply leave.
Classic DV situation. He’s a hothead who doesn’t know when to back down and she keeps letting abusers in and doesn’t realize how dangerous they are.
He talks about her assaulting him but neglects that she told him to get away.
If I punch you and you punch me back. If I then tell you to get away from me, even with a knife in hand, you’re not free to kill me. The act of retreating and ordering the other party away is an attempt to regain innocence in the use of force. There’s nothing to defend against at that point for you. Your choice is stay back or launch a new assault.
2nd degree murder. Book it.
That little mouse of a girl was a “threat”? What a liar. Send him back to her family for proper justice.
The first is the feeling of the women I refer to. The second is thinking too far ahead for them.
