We can debate Dr. Dao till the cows come home (no pun intended) but when it comes to Rover and Fluffy that's another story. If this story is true then United does indeed suck in the worst possible way and would suggest FReepers not take your pets on this airline!
Doggie ping
Kitty ping
Snake ping
Don’t take any of these on United Airlines this story is why!!!
..And the Hits just keep on comin!
What is wrong with them?
Bastards!
Before passing judgment on this, I would need to know two pieces of information: what is the percentage of pets conveyed by United that died or were injured, vis-à-vis other airlines (it’s possible more died on United because more were transported on United), and does the method of conveyance on United differ from that of other airlines (e.g., are they more likely to put pets in cargo hold as opposed to crated in the passenger compartment).
Only know what the story says, have to go on and read it.
"...dogpile on United, dogpile on United, dogpile on United"
My current puppy flew in via United. His breeder uses them all the time. She breeds Czech German Shepherds and always has a waiting list for working line puppies, so she’s a frequent puppy flier. She’s used United for many years without any issues.
My pup was just fine.
I am always nervous about flying in a dog, though. Especially when there’s a stop over, which there usually is. The most anxiety provoking was a lovely GSD girl I brought over from Amsterdam to LAX. I think the shipper used Delta Dash that time. She also was fine and happy.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that I only buy GSDs with excellent, rock solid nerves. Thus, they don’t show a lot of signs of stress.
Most of them seem to be dogs that is the problem. Not sure why.

The article does give the stats, United does fly a significantly higher number of pets than the airline they used for comparison.
Am not clicking on that, know what it is. United does not have snakes on a plain they have scorpions. You really want me to post that?
This is Bongo and Mr. T in Rhode Island the night that we picked them up at the airport:
That's what I get for flying by the seat of my pants :-) thanks, in that case it wouldn't be United's fault per se; it would be like complaining that an urban interstate has more accidents than a rural two-lane. Though given the present state of higher education, one might expect that of Tulane.
(Selfie alert: I took my son to Nawlins when he graduated high school, and was thinking of where to go to college. We stopped in front of Tulane U., and I told him he couldn't go there, the school was so bad they didn't even know how many lanes there were in front of the main gate. Having lived with his father's impish puns for 18 years, he just sighed "Oh, Dad..." and went on to graduate from Rose Hulman four years later.)
