McRaney is his dad and Veronica Cartwright was cast as his mom--two whiter actors in Hollywood they couldn't find. So maybe there's an adoption subplot buried in there.

Speaking of Cartwright. She was cast back in October but there's been no mention of her since then. And she hasn't appeared in any promos. McRaney was cast just last month, and his character description is almost the same as hers ("ruthless parent who will stop at nothing to get Smits into the White House") so I think he might have replaced Cartwright.

This photo is the only evidence I could find that she was ever on the show.

Is it just me, or did they make her look exactly like Hillary?

Maybe after the election they thought they needed to make a cast change and scrap whatever Hillary-esque story they'd planned.

Also--Cartwright is only 6 years older than Smits. That's one messed up family :)

They seemed to indicate in the conversation between dad the general and ethnic uncle in the library, that the mother was hispanic. That's how they are going to explain it I believe.

Exactly! I think he even says "That's not who we are" when someone suggest they should kinda sorta keep an eye on muslims, you know, because the whole government has been blown up by muslims (allegedly).

The whole attitude of the show is just ... off. There's a crater where the capitol building used to be and everyone acts like it's just another day at the office.

I didn’t realize how many all white enclaves there were in various towns. This D.C. Force reminds me of the secret 90% white freeway connection between the 105 East and the 110 north in South LA. I always thought I was the only white person there, driving it. But La La Land showed me that inside the cars are mostly white dancers. Who knew??

Definitely. In Designated Survivor, it’s like the premise is, the Capitol building can blow up, all of government is decimated, but, see, we are going to skip the massive national post traumatic stress and just deal with the little things, the intrigue, the love affairs amongst staffers, etc.

The one for Corey Hawkins was very last minute, literally. He has an odd face to draw. It's like there's no light or shadow on his features.

I don’t know which one Corey Hawkins is, but they were so amazing. This was me, reading that post... “hm, where’d Jonny find these wonderful drawings of all these actors... wait a sec. he’s a brilliant artist... HOW DD HE DO ALL OF THESE???? And he wasn’t planning a thread!!! DID HE DO THESE ALL TODAY???????” You “got” their features like the best caricature artists ever. And the way you did the African American skin, and the shadows. You really have a genius streak.
