You must have never seen the movie Sparticus? See the version with Kirk Douglas as Sparticus. It’s quite good.

I have to agree with you...
The “punchline” is easy to understand but the overall message is lost in the buildup. It’s especially poor marketing for anyone who has not seen the original movie, which is probably most of their target market (ages 35 to 44), unless of course they realize nobody under the age of 45 has disposable income, which is highly likely.
My wife and I easily discerned the message but the humor was old, stale, predictable and evoked eye-rolling from both of us. I just asked if she remembered the brand for the commercial and neither of us could recall despite seeing it at least 1/2 dozen times today.
It’s poor marketing and somebody along the line approved the expense!

I get the “Fenwick” ad. I still don’t get the Cialis ad with two people in separate bathtubs. Even a Cialis rep couldn’t explain it.

Easy. Fenwick is a quirky section of Old Saybrook, CT called a borough, at the mouth of the Connecticut River, where it flows into Long Island Sound. It was made famous by Kate Hepburn; she found refuge there throughout her life/career.
Hepburn had the habit of taking a daily dip no matter the season.
That's my *true* Fenwick story and I'm stickin' to it.

Thanks all, I now get the commercial. The key to that was understanding the reference to the 1960 film "Sparticus" - which somehow I have never seen despite being on this earth some 50 years.
Apparently "Sparticus" is in the gladiator movie genre, one which I have never explored. Which also probably explains why I never totally got the gladiator reference in the movie "Airplane" in which the pilot asks the little boy in the cockpit if he liked to watch gladiator movies.

Sorry Sam, you had to be there to truly understand it. Those who were there that tragic day will never be able to forget it or get over its effects on our lives. Some still suffer PTSD. :-)

The best part is the face palm of the guy in back at the end. Cracks me up.
