I had a friend, he was practically a grandfather, who dated Katherine Hepburn for awhile. He was friends with a lot of the old-time actors. He could have used his own acting chops and become big on Broadway and Hollywood, if he stayed in the entertainment industry.

Instead he returned home and became a teacher.

Oh, did she? That’s amusing. Streep relies on dozens of tricks - including that bloody obsession with accents which civilians think means “really great acting!” Where she does show her talent is generally in comedy. She’s a real drag with drama - Louise Rainer Returned.

She is equally qualified as a scientist and politician. She attempted to destroy the lives of honest apple growers back in the 80’s with lies. Now doing the same for a president with lies.

Yeah me either. I have a category called wimpy blondes that I put her in a long time ago.

My favorite roles of his are Jackie from “State of Grace”, Sid Vicious in “Sid & Nancy” and the dreadlocked drug dealer in “True Romance”

I don't think box office is the ultimate barometer-I think Adam Sandler grossed more than Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise during one stretch of his career-although it is a useful metric.

I'm not saying she's terrible, she's obviously talented to some degree, but I do think she's one of those actors who garners undeserved praise, like Kevin Spacey, Marcia Gay Harden, George Clooney-to a lesser degree.

She does have popular appeal, but I do think that it's limited in certain quarters.

For example, if you surveyed straight men and asked them if they thought Streep was the "greatest" actress of all-time, I don't think she would be universally acclaimed.

Meryl Streep’s top grossing film...”Momma Mia”...144 miliion dollars...wonderful, entertaining film about the Broadway smash hit “Momma Mia” using the music and songs from the magnificent Swedish rock group, “ABBA”!!! I liked the movie...but...if that is the best that Streep can muster......I would say, Trump is 100% correct...she is vastly overrated!!!

Ms. Streep has appeared in dozens of films...only a very small number of them made any real money...with, “Momma Mia” leading the pack!!! Her film rap sheet is nothing to brag about!!!

She’s a fantastic actress, one of the very best. As a political commentator, not so much.

” but I do think she’s one of those actors who garners undeserved praise, “

I think all of the praise she gets for her acting IS well deserved. One of the best actresses ever.

After the other night, though,I will avoid her movies like the plague.

A post yesterday said "her" highest grossing film was "Mama Mia".

Only $530M from six films? I take a stab and say that the collective production budgets were in that neighborhood.

“Four words: Ricky and the Flash.”

A movie I loved but I don’t know many people who saw it.

How about 157 different awards, and hundreds more nominations? Is that a better metric?

This whole thing is ridiculous. Why should anyone care what Streep thinks about Trump? Was anyone surprised at her opinions? Did anyone honestly think she was one of those A list celebrities that Trump claimed wanted tickets to the inauguration? A closet Trump voter? I certainly didn't. I've watched Streep in dozens of different movies, some I liked more than others. She is an immensely talented actress...who is a stone liberal. So what? Streep's comments on Trump have not changed my feelings towards him a whit. She's entitled to her opinions, and to express them when she has a convenient forum. I can't imagine that anywhere in the U.S. today there is a Trump supporter who is saying, "Gee, I guess I was wrong about The Donald. I wish I had my vote back." What she said was pabulum for those who opposed Trump before. And irrelevant to those who support Trump. It is a story that has gone way past it's fifteen minutes of fame.

Most of modern Hollywood is overrated. My husband and I rarely watch newer movies or TV. We watch YouTube. Or we watch Eastwood or Bronson movies on Amazon Prime.

Well, I'll get flamed but she is, in my humble opinion, the best actress to walk the earth's crust. Watch Sophie's Choice.

Having written that, that does not mean I think she has any insight about politics or anything else worth listening to.

On the plus side, she has never tried to be or act like a vamp. Still married to the same person and does not live in Hollywood. I think she lives in Ct.

On the negative side, she is a leftist who feels a need to lecture and educate those that like football and MMA. She is no doubt feeling very superior today, but then there is Jan. 20 coming and she will be at home binge eating and we will be celebrating, so it's not all bad.

Greenfield mentions that-also, the fact that the film was released in 1982...a long time ago.
