can we predict the media memes that will suddenly spring up now that Trump will be president?

Just wait until he starts deporting illegals. Then watch the papers fill up with boo-hoo stories about hard-working Maria and her 17 children being split up by Donald "Lagree" Trump.

And we've already seen a spate of tear-jerkers about poor Suhayla and Tariq being beaten up while leaving their mosque after evening prayers.

The Edmund Fitzgerald sank 42 years ago and they still haven’t decided what sank her. All there is is competing theories.

when the wreckage was examined, people were perplexed because they couldn't find anything like it.

To my knowledge, investigators have never been able to expose that part of the bow that struck the iceberg. The bow section is buried several dozen feet in the bottom mud and the collision point is completely covered. They haven't even been able to find anything meaningful with side-scan radar.

As with many catastrophes, there are often a series of individual defects that happen to line up to produce the disaster. In the case of the Titanic, you have possibly substandard rivets, water tight bulkheads that didn’t reach the full height of the hull, a dark night, a really big ass iceberg, an attempt at a speed record to reach NYC meaning they were moving too fast to effectively maneuver, and too few life boats.

Nonsense.

It was hacked by the Russians.

Well, she might have split up, or she might have capsized, or she might have broke deep and took water...

I saw a documentary on the weather conditions at the time. The ship just happened to come across conditions that were essentially a cold water mirage that obscured the iceberg from the lookouts as well.

A bigger, greed-spurred catastrophe was the SS Sultana, on the Mississippi, a couple of weeks after Lincoln was shot. The body count was a few hundred more.

Eerie simulation of Titanic from the iceberg strike to final moments in real time.

Titanic sinks in REAL TIME - 2 HOURS 40 MINUTES

“hundreds of tons of coal “self-heated” enough to burst into flame”

Coal is an evil demonic entity that must be abandoned. Must be replaced by millions of wind turbines and solar panels or civilization as we know it will be destroyed. You can go back to the days of the Titanic to see the signs!

One question I always wondered was if they’d thrown the ship in reverse and made several knots would it have kept the water at bay enough to manage and stabilize it? On the line of how an opening in a boat will drain against the motion.

Wow. I’d never heard of that disaster.

“The accident happened at 2 a.m., when three of the steamship’s four boilers exploded. The reason the death toll was almost exactly equal to the number of Union troops killed at the battle of Shiloh (1,758) was gross government incompetence. The Sultana was legally registered to carry 376 people. She had six times more than that on board, due to the bribery of army officers and the extreme desire of the former POWs to get home.”

The line I hate from that song is when they say the church bells rang 29 times for each man on the EF. That’s like 840 times!

I always wonder if the had taken it head-on would they have fared better. More damage to the bow, but maybe fewer compartments open to sea.

The ships bell was recovered some years ago. It's located at whitefish point lighthouse museum on lake Superior, the lighthouse it would've passed had it not sunk. Every November 10th it is rung once for each crew member.

Problem with that is that the tear in the hull was well below the waterline...the differential pressure between the inside of the hull (14.7 psi) and the sea pressure at the depth of the tear (greater than 14.7 psi) would have forced water into the ship whatever speed she was traveling.

The real problem was that too many compartments were opened by the iceberg, and that the watertight bulkheads of those compartments did not rise far enough above the waterline. Titanic really was doomed the instant she hit the iceberg...about the only thing they could have done to delay the sinking was flood the aft of the ship, so the bow wouldn’t take such a steep down angle.

Ask Gordon Lightfoot, it was ‘When the winds of November comes Early..’. I read that the EdFitz was going to dry dock to get modernized, and one of the hatches wasn’t closed properly.
