No, it’s a classical disagreement in opinion among Jews.

We’re all one big family, not some hive mind.

I’m speaking in context of how those apparent kooks address the scriptures. It’s being hypocrites on their part. So what’s new under this weary old sun?

Oh I know that.

I’m a crazy Christian and I know that. The bible says so too. It’s men, proud of their institutions and not caring about God, who later came up with the easy, lazy stereotype that “all Jewish people are the same.”

Google says they arose in Transylvania and have been involved in much political intrigue in Jewish circles.

But anyhow. Personally I’m more simpatico spiritually with Chasidim “in general” even though I am a crazy Christian, because they at least believe in power from the scriptures and from worship. And so do I. If you don’t believe in it, you’re doubting the Lord and it will not happen.

One of my observations, and I do feel sad about it, not “superior,” as I have known Jewish communities — is that Judaism shied away from looking “too Christian” after the Roman overrunning of the temple. This robbed swaths of scripture of a power that they had been viewed as having before this all happened. The Christians didn’t deny any of this power; what they affirmed and proclaimed was that they had encountered God having shockingly become incarnate and having effected this power.

But I wouldn’t want to look to this Satmar group as any example of Jewish virtue thereby, any more than I would want people looking at Christianity to see it through polyester suited, greedy televangelists who are hucksters of blessings for dollars.

“he was so busy raising $$$$ for de Blasio that he didn’t have time to work a real job . . .”

Actually, not many of the Hasidics have real jobs.

“Yitzchok (Isaac) Sofer hosted a de Blasio fund-raiser in October 2013 and is a leader in the Satmar group that backed the mayor just before the September 2013 primary.”

???? I thought the running narrative was that the Ultra-Orthodox were conservative and Republican voting?

No, they study both Torah and secular education. They also have a lot of kids.

Paid for, apparently to a large extent, via federal benefits.

Given a choice, though, I'd rather see a growing population of Jews, than of some of the other members of the seemingly-permanent underclass.

I think the Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox, who actually work for a living, support Republicans.

Welfare recipients, of whatever flavor, support Democrats.

NO, that's not the case of the majority of Chassidics. Much of the money comes from private donations. These aren't lazy people, and they live very simple lives where they give excess money around to others in need. Their job is to study and teach Torah. Many work in the secular world in addition to that.

I may not practice their total isolation from secular society that they do to protect their children and way of life, but that's their choice and I'm grateful they continue it. As a Jew, they are my family.

The Satmar don't want their kids in public education or exposed to drugs, they despise the greed and focus on materialism in this country, and they have a slightly different opinion on halacha than other Jewish movements.

They want complete and total separation from secular society to preserve this. The biggest difference between Satmar and other Chassidic movements is they view the Israeli government as illegitimate because they believe only Mashiach can gather Israel.

They only evangelize to other Jews. I disagree with their efforts with the Yemenite Jews but that's what being a member of the greater Jewish nation means -- debate, disagreements on interpretation, different traditions and dynasties, etc.

The Satmar are still family, and we're not supposed to lashon hara other Jews even if they do it to us. The majority of them were wiped out in the Holocaust because they didn't have enough money to get everyone out. Their version of "never again" resulted in significant monies socked away the next time the Christians or Muslims decide to it's in everyone's interest to kill the Jews so they can get everyone out.

I cannot believe I just defended the Satmar even though I vehemently disagree with a good chunk of their views.

Yes the Chabad and Rebbe Schneerson were very pro Israel

Hawks actually

When I worked on 47th n Friiday aft the Lubavitch kids would solicit donations in blue cups

They’d look at me all Wessex DNA looking from Mississippi and ask....you’re not Jewish are you?

I’d give some money anyhow...they were polite

The Rebbes iconic pic adorned many an office I did deals in there

I mined and procured emeralds and diamonds from source nations around the world to major world markets nearly all controlled by various Jewish families and cartels

Some Indian and Iranian and Thai participants but 95% Jewish in New York and London and Geneva and Antwerp and Idar Oberstein (fading fast)

The satmar r were the primary rivals to the Chabad no?

The mid 80s about the time they ....some Hasidic started to really push the notion Menachem Schneerson was the Moshiach

Satmar is the Teitlebaums no?

I had business later in my life with Joey Titlebaum in Miami who was basically the don of the Miami ports and docks...and I had moved to freighters

He was ok...tough but ok

http://www.csmonitor.com/1980/0417/041761.html

We had one dust up when his loader tilted my cargo upon loading but he gave in.....

He was 25 years older than me ....I think he simply liked me

His brother Arthur ran the ADL

Joey loved Magnus...had a pic with him at Joes Stone Crab

His brother obviously a ‘tard

You could do worse than Joey Teitlebaum....all five foot four of him

He coulda been a Lansky but he walked straight

He warned me one time when he heard a charterer wasn’t going to pay me in Port Au Prince

I held the ship offshore till I got my money

The Satmar wear the shtreimel right and the Lubavitch usually fedoras right?

Is that Hasidic gent on my profile I spoke with last summer Satmar likely then?

We talked Trump...he was walking to Temple in Williamsburg right over the bridge

He was friendly ....amused my oldest was dipping Cope...

Jews don’t worship their rabbis.

Are saying those Lubavitch who hoped Schneerson was the messiah are not true Jews or they are misguided

Cool irony you tossed in...was that on purpose...very clever

Cause we Christians sure worship our rabbi don’t we?

Speaking of which its now his birthday to us...about five months off but who’s counting...

If you did that on purpose that was sharp

Or am I being that too by half thing?

A lot of Hasidic are waiting on a messiah aren’t they?

Do they not expect him from their ranks...

My knowledge is dilettante...like you said they sure don’t proselytize

I don’t proselytize Jews either for the record

Which Jewish sect do you think most reflects Jewish truth or adherence?
