This appears to be a new attack some family members are turning to. They say it's dishonest to say you're going to give money but the money comes from somewhere else.

I figured it probably came from Trump but through the proper channels but haven't' found any indications of that being the case.

I'm putting it here to see what my fellow Freepers think about it.

I doubt that Oprah gave all those gifts to the audience out of her pocket. Same with Ellen when she gives monitary gifts to people. It’s not from her pocket.

I remember an Oprah Winfrey Show several years ago is which she ‘gave away’ Pontiacs.
Studio audience went wild.
Actually Pontiac Motors gave them away as a publicity stunt to advertise one of their cars, G3, G4,G5?

Most of the folks got a rude awakening when they found out they had to pay the tax and other expenses related to the gift. Many were p!$$ed off.
Dear Oprah didn’t even pay the incidentals.
Yet she gets the credit for the give away.

So, every time my boss said "I'm giving you a raise" it wasn't actually coming to me out of his paycheck... it was coming from the company instead?
