It's EXACTLY like the recent Turkey revolution. And now it appears there is going to be a "Ribbentrop-Molotov"-like pact between Turkey and Russia.
Most Germans realized that the Weimar Republic was a failed state, and that only two politically viable alternatives were the Communists and the Nazis.
Many Germans simply voted for Hitler on the premise that the Communists would be worse - i.e. the Nazis would give them a dictatorship where property remained in private hands (i.e. under the Nazis, privately held businesses and land were not nationalized, apart from Jewish property), while with Communism they would lose their businesses and their property. So Hitler had the political support of the middle and upper classes not because they particularly liked him or Nazi ideology but because his brand of dictatorship seemed preferable to having a Bolshevik revolution in Germany.
Did Hitler's nationalism appeal to many Germans after World War I and the Weimar debacle? Sure. But the majority of his votes came from those who went to the ballot to support what they perceived as the lesser of two bad choices.
It’s interesting to speculate what would have happened if the Communists won in Germany.
That actually would have been Stalin’s nightmare, because ultimately the German Communists would try to seize control of the worldwide Communist movement from Moscow, and it could very well had still led to war between Germany and Russia.
Stalin discouraged any alliance between the Communists and various other Marxist parties (Social Democrats etc) in late 20's/early 30's Germany. This lead to infighting among the Marxist groups and their ultimate failure to coalesce into a stronger party.
In fact, once Hitler gained power, Stalin was more than happy to let Hitler take care of Thaelmann and the other German Communists.
The Germans should also have music for their WW2 navy. "Lieder of the Pack."
And ultimately the Industrialists threw in their lot with Hitler out of fear of Bolshevism.....They also feared Rohm and the SA, who were pretty much Communists in all but name, so that was the main reason why Hitler had them killed off.
Ernst Rohm, the Nazi in the Village People.
Those photos show that the Nazis had a much better sense of fashion than the Occupy crowd.
Gotta give them that.
