I don't know if Illinois drivers are the worst, but I just wish they would stay out of Missouri.

It's almost a guarantee when you get behind or alongside an Illinois driver, they will soon do something stupid.

I moved a few years ago from Michigan to Maryland. Maryland drivers are horrible, but at least they drive fast. Fifteen over the speed limit is about average. Detroit area drivers are fast, aggressive and good.

Turn signals are a sign of weakness and it’s not really tailgating unless the bumpers are touching.

Eastern Virginia has the worst snow drivers. They don’t get enough to learn the right habits.

CA With the illegal driver licenses it is among the worst. You do not have to parallel park any longer to pass a driver’s test. I am frequently passed on no passing zones, in the fog, at night. Someone passed me on a blind curve the other day. I have had numerous people pass me on the left as I try to make a left turn on a two lane road. Passing on the shoulder. Running red lights; at least two or three come through after the light has changed. Essentially, there are no traffic laws here.

As a native of Northern Virginia/Washington DC, I can tell you that the drivers here are by far the worst in the country.

The interesting thing about this is that MOST of those drivers are in FACT not from here.

Clearly the author never drove far from home and didnt rely on real world experience. If they had the list would look like this:

1) Mass (They could save huge $ on road build by just making all roads with a L lane only...Massholes love to drive in the L lane.)
2) RI (If you dont like my driving stay off the sidewalk)
3) CT (The Unhinged State)
4) TN (You mean I have to pay attention when Im driving????)
5) NJ (Annoying at any speed)
6) NY (Home of the granny driver)
7) WA (Lets all yield to each other and pass at a nominal speed...nothing WAtonians like better than a good grid lock)
8) VA (same as Mass...the southern version of lets all drive in the L lane...slowly)
9) VT(dangerous at any speed)
10) PA (The midAtlanic version of Mass and VA)

Chicagoans have solved their bad driver problems by buying "beaters" for routine to and from work driving to lessen damages caused by bad drivers. If you work downtown, you either have a beater or a company car OR you'll spend a fortune having repairmen try to beat the dents out of it.

You wouldn't believe how confused an Iowa-born guy (me) confronting reversible lanes for the first time.

“it’s tradition to check the license plate and say, “No wonder—they’re from such-and-such state.”

LOL

I curse under my breath when I see ANY out-of-state license plate and say something like, Go back to ( state, usually a yankee-b*tch state )! We do not want you down here, anyway! ;-)

9. Texas. It has the highest percentage of deaths from drunk driving at 40 percent.

Forty percent of what?

One of the indignities Iowans used to - maybe still do - put up with was the lecture from a WI state trooper about how WI teaches its citizens to drive correctly, the implication being that Iowans are incapable of doing so. Ironically, most NE Iowa drivers regard a WI plate as a warning to be on guard for boneheaded motoring.

That being said, many years ago, there were areas of Iowa my parents used to specifically ridicule for clueless driving, and I particularly remember that seeing a Calhoun County plates would generally cause my dad to exclaim, "Look out, it's from Calhoun County!"

This article is crap. Why cite the 15th worst of some factor or another when 14 states are worse?

Also, I suspect that a lot of states have a lower number of insured drivers than Florida, just because they have much smaller populations.

Oklahoma. It’s the only state left where you can leave your car on the interstate and it won’t get towed.

#1 no surprise. Driver’s in Florida think it’s against the law to use their turn indicators.
