I follow the races on TVS Tracktime. You can also bet on line. Their commentators seem straight and are insightful.
The only thing I would add is that a lot of times a sloppy track will cause some horses to pull back...jocks and owners won’t risk injury.
I had the exacta...but wouldn’t have won diddly squat.
Oh well, no matter...I just love to see them run.
I had Gun Runner to win place show. When I heard it rained I thought Exaggerator but by then too late for my son to place a bet for me.
Probably made enough on Nyquist and Gun Runner to pay for the bet, that would be it. :)
Oh so do I. I really didn’t think Nyquist could do it, I guess he is as good as they say.
Beautiful horses.
I am disgusted with myself for talking myself into thinking that Creator had a chance. All you bettors out there-—DON”T BE LIKE ME!! Luckily I bet very little on the race-—biggest bet, Whitmore to win for $5. Left Mohaymen out of every $1 superfecta-—
He must have had the right frequency...
No reason to be disgusted with yourself. In a race of this stature...they all have a chance.
Great jocks, great owners and trainers...great horses.
I guess we’ll see if he is as good as they think. Long way to go. :)
I am one that likes to see the horses before they run. What a beautiful line up!
But truthfully, the most money I ever won on a race was on a horse that looked so much like a donkey I couldn’t figure out what he was doing on the track. A million to one odds. Why did I bet on him? I always pick one long shot per race and put the money on his nose. And I felt sorry for him. As you can see, I’m very scientific in my handicapping, lol.
I like red horses. I was disappointed this year, usually I can watch previous races online when I’m checking out the field but couldn’t find them this year.
I also am a sucker for names, hence my bets on Creator and Gun Runner.
Zero logic to my betting.
I hit the exacta. Bet $5 and boxed 4 horses. That’s a $60 bet. I got back $75. Lost a few others so I spent $25 to go out to Sam Houston Race Track and have a few hours of fun.
wtg...I had 1st and 3rd.
“I just love to see them run.”
Me too. I am just a $2 bettor (in boxes in the exotics) to make it interesting. Same bets today as 50 years ago.
“I spent $25 to go out to Sam Houston Race Track and have a few hours of fun.”
Good way to look at it. 99.9999% of individuals who gamble on horses lose money whether they want to admit it or not! You cannot beat the “take” from Pari mutual pools.
Hour or so prior to the race it his with mucho gusto.
HElped make the drunken scene perfect.
I heard people all my life tell about going to Vegas and hitting a $1,200 jackpot at the slots. If you press them they’ll admit they put it all back in PLUS some before they left.
Now, with my system of betting horses, I will more than likely win money...probably 75% of the time. It’s all about the jockeys. I bet one of the winningest jockeys across the board until he wins. Then I’ll switch to the next best jockey who hasn’t won yet. And I don’t look at the odds.
(One day Jerry Bailey won the first four races. and I wasn’t betting on him. That was a day I didn’t do too well.)
But back to the “system”, even if that winning jockey doesn’t win, he’s more than likely to be in the money so you get some of your bet back.
Try it out. It works. But you have to have faith and keep betting on your jockey until he comes in.
Ok. I am a class/breeding bettor. Also horses for courses. Lastly certain sires do well with their off springs for turf and off tracks.
Your “system” will work but it requires a lot of studying. But I bet that’s a lot of fun.
My dad who lived in NE TX always bet on the Jockey not the horse. He grew up just before WW2 in the Great Depression. Your horse meant something about you. Not to be racist but paints were horses for blacks or Indians. White guys rode bays, chestnuts, greys, etc, Kinda like a Mustang car or a Dodge Charger.
I know a guy who won’t bet horses but he bets dogs. He says “The dogs don’t have monkeys on their backs telling them what to do and when to do it.”
It turned out that the 13-11 exacta, which was the absolute logical bet ,( in addition to a Nyquist win bet,) paid VERY well, considering how huge the exacta pool was with that combination obviously being the biggest one. It paid $30.60!!!! I would expected, having seen tens of thousands of races, and been very accurate in predicting unknown exotic payouts, that the exacta would’ve been $10 or $12. THIRTY bucks is a gift that doesn’t come along too often, for such a no-brainer type of bet made on the only two horses that were bet heavily.
