I have a soft spot for black cocker spaniels. They are my favorite dog, however due to poor breeding cockers can no longer be trusted for temperament so we have Cavaliers, two of which are black and tan.

I’ve got a black dog. Out in the country where there are no street lights and if there isn’t a moon out, you can’t seem him at night, at all. I’ve play wrestled with him and couldn’t see him even when he had hold of my arm.

We lost our dear black shepherd mix last year. The sweetest, smartest dog ever, his size and color unhinged people. They would move far out of the way when they saw him on the street, even though he never pulled on his lead, barked, or growled at anyone ever.

Black Dog syndrome is real, and I encourage people to take advantage of it. Get a black dog and let people think what they like. People who don’t know your dog will avoid you and your home. What’s not to love?

Three of my pound puppies are black dogs (well, one one is a Rot/Lab mix) they are all the greatest family members you could imagine (except George, he is a juvenile delinquent).
George is the Rot/Lab mix, but he loves me.

A friend of mine has a pet store- doesn’t deal in dogs, though... He does sell a lot of rabbits, but the black rabbits in every litter always sell last.

My wife went to get us a kitten at Christmas from a family that was recently accursed with them. It was free.

The lady said “Hey, I also have this black kitten that no one wants. I will give you $50 to take him”.

So we got two.

Actiually black cats are in worse shape. Or so it is said.

As for dogs, I can believe it but haven’t really heard that.

The thing about black dogs is their blending in, especially at night, and the sensation that a black face is scarier. Our own breed founder was against white German Shepherds partly because predators would see them too easily in the night, whereas the darker shades could sneak up on a predator better while guarding.
