Dog is still all damp from going out in the yard and running around in the heat.
Frank seems to have figured out Blue’s Clues ABC.
Good for Frank! How is Anoreth enjoying her visit?
We had a nice breeze in the ramada. And of all things, Crazy Frank showed up!!! I haven’t seen him in almost a year, even though he lives here! LOL!
I think he’s going to start coming over here because it is cooler and shadier than the ramada by his place. That will be good! I have missed him!
And he can talk about ANYthing!
I’m assuming the dog has a name and you’re just not sharing it.
But you remind me of a family that couldn’t think of a name for their dog and finally named it Deeohgee.
How can you call him Crazy Frank? Next to the current administration Klinger is a paragon of sanity.
Maggie. But she responds to Dog.
Hey! My dog’s name is Maggie.
Whaddya know?
Crazy Frank was, at one time, about 20 years ago, in the pest control business in FL for about 25 years. It pretty much destroyed his brain, and he lost his wife and children because of it.
His sister (Las Vegas) took him in and let him live in her garage for a while. He started to get his faculties back by watching Sesame Street and re-learning his ABCs. He was then homeless for a while, living in an area called The Wetlands, a little north and east of us here in Henderson.
Eventually, he was able to function almost normally, but with still a huge amount of his memory gone. His sister helped him to file for disability, and since he was in such a child-like state, she arranged for a Public Guardian for him to watch over his finances.
He moved here (in this complex) a few months after I did, but he was still basically mentally inept. Then he found jigsaw puzzles in the community room, and he and another resident would spend days and often far into the night, putting those puzzles together.
He learned there were some feral cats in the arroyo, and he did have a bicycle, so he would go take care of them and spend the nights in the arroyos, trying to keep the coyotes away from the kittens.
I got him a sling shot and some marbles so he could send the coyotes a message, but not hurt or maim them.
He learned how to read again, and he couldn’t get enough books, and for that matter, he couldn’t get enough movies. He watched movies when he had insomnia and the weather was too bad to go to the arroyo.
I used to buy crossword and puzzle books in bulk, as “pulls” from the magazine racks in stores, and I went through a bunch of them and took them to his place and just left them by his door. He was so grateful because he said working the puzzles gave his mind the exercise it needed to recall things that he thought were gone for good.
He is “Crazy Frank” because unless you know him, it would appear he is crazy, but if you REALLY listen to him, you realize he is extremely intelligent and can talk about anything you want to bring up as a topic. I have never seen him shy away from a subject, and for the most part, he is very passionate about being able to recover his past.
Sounds like a good person to talk with.
And not nearly as crazy as crazy Barack or Crazy John (Roberts).
Ugh, pest control..
The chems they work with are rather brutal.
Small leaks and exposure over time does loads of other damage.
He may have fine motor control issues besides the memory loss.
He is very adept (now) at repairing small engines and fixing bicycles and other things.
These days, he is able to realize how much he lost, and remember that there was a time when he was as close to a vegetable as he could ever want to be. He sees me as one of his best friends. I am flattered by that.
He has even mastered an older computer, and is able to record VHS tapes onto DVDs!
For the first time in his life, he learned how to shoot pool about two years ago. He was at the community room, shooting pool, whenever the room was open, and he didn’t care if he had competition. He was just happy to learn a game that required skill and strategy rather than brute force.
He has forgotten all he knew about chess...
How interesting! Anoreth’s dog came with that name; she’s had previous owners.
I’m impressed! DP never mastered recording VHS onto DVDs. I finally gave up on waiting and gave all the CDs to The Salvation Army.
I could probably record the VHS onto DVD if I had someone who could walk me through it the first time and let me write my own instructions.
Frank had never used a computer in his working life and when computers became the norm for people to use, his brain was too fried to even comprehend what they were and what they did.
He considers every little accomplishment in his life to be a fantastic victory over the damage that pest control chemicals did to his brain.
I should say so!
I love him like a brother. He has no idea how hard he had to struggle out of the mess the chemicals put him into, but he DOES know that as long as he is learning, he will some day be back to what he considers “normal.”
He is pretty doggone neat!
Well, I hope he’ll be hanging out in your shade more often. I remember your writing about him in the past. Wasn’t he the one who cared for feral cats out in the arroyos?
Actually, you can just drop the last part of that sentence ... "He considers every little accomplishment in his life to be a fantastic victory ..."
And then it applies to all of us. We just usually forget to appreciate that.
Yes, Crazy Frank still cares for the feral cats in the arroyos, because he has such a tender heart. I’m glad he has “found” us. He said the ramada in front of his place is over-crowded, noisy and hot.
I suspect we will see him more often because he likes me! :o])
But then, so does Charlie, the never married Navy Veteran who often sports rather conservative caps. You know...those supporting the 2nd Amendment, the US Navy and Freedom of Speech? He also like wimmins, but has none at the moment. And the answer is “no.”
LOL!
