I've always wanted to see William Faulkner's [i]Light in August[/i] filmed - it's one of Faulkner's few novels that would work as a film (i.e. mostly not written stream of consciousness).
There's also a long list of novels that have been adapted to film but were done so poorly that another filmmaker should take a shot.
