It’s all those damn windmills creating subsonic waves in the atmosphere!
When there’s a thermal inversion in the stratosphere combined with solar deformation of the ionosphere, the subsonic waves will heterodyne against each other creating the audible sound wherever the terrestrial topology is favourable.
Excuse me for only giving a partial answer, but I have to go fire up the tesla coil to drive off the unicorns. They’re getting closer.....
