An old friend of mine from high school supposedly lived with Manilow 25-30 years ago and I have always wondered what she might say about him. I said she supposedly lived with him because I’ve always been skeptical about it. Then again, her mother told my mother she was living with him and I can’t imagine her making something that wild up, particularly when my mother had been her Sunday School teacher. The girl was real pretty and she worked as a flight attendant, so it’s not too hard to imagine how she might have met him.
I really don’t have a problem with him, seems to want to live his life quietly, like Johnny Mathis (who BTW was a big Reagan supporter, as was Liberace).
Oh, Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking but I sent you away.
Apparently Mandy was a man.
Clever...
I hope Mandy takes the news well.
I’m SHOCKED to My very Core!
shucks.
San Francisco too.. Lots of bathhouses back in the day.. Lucky Bette didn’t drown on her quest.
Just like Elton John.
The Beaver is gay?!?!?!
RE: I hope Mandy takes the news well.
You can find her at the Copa, Copacabana drinking with Lola.
....and Liberace.
Didn’t he seem like a pedophile when we found out he wrote “Sweet Caroline” about a 12 year old Kennedy girl?
What happened to Mandy?
Memphis ‘73 rumbles thru my mind.. Lots of ice and snow.. The barracks jukebox wailed away.. OHHHH MMMmmaannndddyyyy.. Falstaff and Hauenstien beer in the vending machine. Oh yeah.
I agree is always kept his life private but everyone suspected. He simply lived his own life and was not the “In your face” type of rabid gay. However, I recall he made a rant against Elizabeth Hasselbeck because he did not want her involved interviewing him except Rosie O’Donut. He lost me there even though I enjoy his music.
That was Neil Diamond.
Wait, what about Neil Diamond??!!!???
Both Liberace and Manilow have been great performers who never hurt anyone, and if viewed as part of American culture, actually helped preserve good music and showmenship.
Compare them to some of the poseurs in the music field today. Talent versus Smoke and Mirrors. I’ll take talent any day. Much easier on the ears and soul.
Let’s appreciate them for what they gave us, musical pleasure and good shows.
