Oh yeah.....that was bad.
I still find myself whistling that one. Of course it was very “uncool” to admit you liked it when I was a kid. I didn’t even realize it was about someone dying until I was in my thirties. It kind of chokes my up now but when I was younger I thought it was a happy song. Man I was an idiot when I was young lol. A happy idiot though
Seasons In The Sun was well written musically. A staccato organ piece was played throughout the song, but always in a minor key. That organ reminded me of a Harpsicord, with it’s prim precision.
This added to the idea that someone was remembering something both grand and precious.
A few years later, Russell made this novelty song that had some minor airplay in 71.

I remember that song very well. What a natural songwriter and performer. I could see it all playing out like a film in real time. All this time, I had thought it was Harry Nielson who had done it, remember he put out ‘Me And My Arrow’?
