In 2011, there was a Swiss vote to use public common storage of the mandated guns in the “civil defense”. It was voted down since most disagreed with it.

Hard to believe guns are usually stored in a common storage area when most of the voters rejected such a requirement.
Thanks for the links. I believe the article I read a few years ago must have pre-dated the national referendum, since I don’t recall any mention of it, And it seemed to have a more hamlet-by-hamlet tone to it. Even so, a national referendum on the issue might well pass in a few more years, the way trends normally go nowadays. 57% opposed could slip away easily as voters age and memories fade.
In searching, I found a few pro-referendum article writen before the vote, trying to drum up support. A couple seemed intentionally vague but implying "many" were already doing this with clubs and the like.
