Has anyone seen a picture of the tail? I would love to see where it is separated from the main fuselage.

Maybe they should consider using a steel cable instead, They used wire rope which is a technical name for what most of us call "steel cable".
They are not complete dummies.
What the debris cut through is a strap they used around the debris. The reason for this is that a wire rope can cut the fuselage in half, which will make determining the primary damage more difficult, and which will lead to two pieces on the bottom of the ocean.
