#1...See post #77 about how some balls that hang up more than others can contribute to a receiver catching it...
And more importantly #2...Stop making it all about the QB. I actually think underinflated balls aren't intended to help the QB at all. It's done for the receivers!!!!
What don't people get about that?
I wouldn't be surprised.
I don't suppose I can cheer for both teams to lose?
One wonders if it was “cheating cheating” or just “cheating”. Ever since “it depends on the definition of IS” there has been a tendency to gray out even the most obvious ethical, moral or honesty events.
Many have said that Indy would have lost in any case, but would the Pats have taken the offensive if they were intercepted or fumbled early in the game because the quarterback could grip the ball well. Could have been a completely different game.
Should forfeit the game to Indy to send a message that any cheating is “cheating cheating”.
(Well, I can see you see all things from ONLY a Q's perspective)
So, let me ask you...have you ever CAUGHT a football in game wet-conditions in your life???
So let me repeat what I just said in post #81:

Maybe they should do just like in hockey. Have the opposing team can for a ball check, just like in hockey a team can call for a stick check, the most famous case, being Marty McSorley’s illegal stick during the 93 Stanley Cup.

Not buying it. It was 50 at game time and I’ve read that all balls are checked at the same time and marked. If it were so easy for 11 of 12 balls to fall under spec on what could be considered almost a fall-like day for football, then:
A. There’d be no psi rule to begin with because it would be too difficult to enforce.
B. This would be a very common occurrence and there would be no split among former players and other experts.
This is all so stupid. Bunch of chicken littles.
I'm convinced you haven't.
The NFL should change the rule or enforce it, even with a small penalty. If a runner steps out of his lane or a swimmer leaves the block a hundredth of a second before his relay partner touches the wall, they are DQ’d. It doesn’t matter if they finish ten yards ahead of the next competitor. I am saddened by how many people I have heard say that it didn’t effect the outcome of the game so what difference did it make. When did we start thinking that cheating is ok if it doesn’t seem to effect the outcome?
1) Do you have any idea how little 3 milliseconds is?
2), it doesn’t make it hang up any more, it simply makes it infitesimally weaker of a throw...which doesn’t go downfield or reach quite as much altitude to hang as well - which is the OPPOSITE of your argument - by a trivial margin.
The effect is it’ll let a defender get a little bit closer - again, trivially - than the more fully inflated ball.

The difference is so small that it is a 25k fine. Lots of sports have tiered penalties for a variety of things.
The punishment, according the the league rules, is a $25k fine. So thats it.
So if an offensive lineman holds, but doesn’t get called for holding, is he still cheating?
Yep... there is a reason the refs don’t check air pressure on all of them before every game.
No. It’s considered a judgment call by the ref even if no ref were there to see it. However an illegal blow to the head or similar can be punished upon league review whether the ref flagged it or not.
Did he do it on purpose and try to hide it from the refs? :) (sarc)
I just think this is all a bunch of hype about nothing.
I agree, if it were any other team, nobody would care, but since it’s the Patriots, the team everyone loves to hate, it’s getting the mileage that it is.
Again, you're treating the pelting rain conditions as if they were entirely irrelevant.
