Watching this video makes me sick to my stomach because it was all so unnecessary. There is simply no excuse for careening down a highway at 60+mph when it is snowing hard and the roads are coated - especially when you can't see more than a 1/10th of a mile ahead of you.
Has these folks maintained a safe speed (maybe 35mph) and kept adequate distance behind the cars in front of them, they all would have gotten to their destinations safely.
But many motorists simply will not use that common sense approach. They feel that because they have 4WD or AWD, they are invincible, but that is a false sense of security because if you have to brake suddenly at highway speed on a snow covered road, you are going to spin out and wreck just like everybody else.
Many times I'll be driving in the snow at a safe speed and invariably some jerk in an SUV will be right on my tail, flashing his lights and making obscene gestures, because he wants to go full speed. I will try to pull over to the side of the road when it is safe and let them by but I should not have to do that.
Almost every wreck during a snowstorm is the direct result of somebody going too fast for the conditions.
Certainly sounds like you had a guardian angel!
I had that thought too.
Thanks for your kind comment.
Semi’s driven by owners, are more rational than those driving for the Trucking companies.....in the Video, I notice two of the trucks were from the same Company...the green stripe Semi’s, and the 2nd one stopped in time.
Michigan drivers are 80-85 mph drivers when it’s sunny, they only slow to 60-65 in the snow/ice.
learning curve.
The key to taking videos via email or text msg is to keep it short. Or, you can edit the video and clip out the part you want, or the parts you don't want.
I dont take videos in low res.
The Horizon app also has the ability to set the video quality, which adjusts the compression ratio. A lower quality video will be smaller. Depending on the actual video, you may not be able to notice the difference.
You mean the fourth time the dome collapsed. :-)
It deflated in each of 1981, 1982, and 1983.
Used to live in Lake Jackson (On That Way). Had a bunch of snow in December of ‘89. Most people had never seen it before, they ALL drove exceedingly SLOW.
Wow that’s mean
Wow, Al straightened and bleached his hair.
I barely recognized him.
Did your mother recover?
On a perfectly clear, calm summer day at an ordinary intersection in town, most people these days will drive full speed up to the last possible second before they slam on their brakes and come to a stop behind someone at a light. They simply can’t be bothered to care about anyone else any more than that.
This video is what those people look like in winter. Its not about this or that thing they did wrong, because they do it ALL wrong, because they simply don’t give a damn. They feel nothing because of their antidepressants, they’re texting, listening to the radio, and are cocooned behind anti-lock, computer-controlled brakes. Especially, being liberals, they are utter jackasses ANYWAY and so habitually treat other people like garbage - and never, ever have to answer for anything they do.
Therefore, to these terminal narcissists, nothing will ever touch them. And then, on a cold winter day with bad weather, they pull onto the highway, floor it...
... and BAM!
This is one of them.
Nicest road to travel in the summer, one of the worst in the winter.
Being mean would be saying “Awwww it’s someone else fault you were driving too fast in bad conditions where you could not stop in time to avoid hitting a wall of cars”.
These people were reckless. I feel bad for them, not sorry.
LOL! And so true!
It’s a wig for the video... to look the part of a southern California d-bag, which he pulls off well... the biggie though is when Al got Lasik surgery... that totally made him look different.
I’ve been through that section of I-75 many times, but only once when the fog was heavy. It was like driving into a white wall. Fortunately everyone around me slowed down and we crept through safely.
... and BAM!
I saw one of these morons today. We got a couple of inches of snow overnight. A fellow driving a car removed the snow off all his windows except the front windshield. He only removed snow from the drivers side and left all the snow on the passenger side. A minute or 2 more of work and the windows are clear..
