Oh, wow, thank you for posting this. I was 3 in 1966, but I know they showed this in later years, because I remember it.

I’ve looked all over for the one with the oil lamp. Was it a Santa or an elf? I recall an elf, but I could be wrong.

The one I would really love to see is the reindeer with the antlers which bloomed with poinsettias.

I think it was an elf. I have it archived on disc somewhere. It was on Youtube but it could have been yanked off but if I find it, I'll post it on a private link and put it here. I think thsat one came out in the early to mid 1970's.

Remember when they had the “Peanuts” specials on, the usual sponsor was “Peter/Paul” candy which later became “Peter/Paul/Cadbury.”

I do...also remember the original sponsor of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” was Coca-Cola, and one of the ad execs who helped bring the company, network and creative team together was Neil Reagan, the president’s brother.

At one point, Mr. Reagan was dispatched to check on the progress of the production, which had a very tight timeline. According to Lee Mendelson, one of the executive producers of the program, Reagan saw they were behind and wasn’t completely pleased with what he saw. But he kept his mouth shut and the ad agency (and Coca-Cola) stayed out of the way.

CBS execs saw the special about a week before it aired. They hated it so much they told Mendelson, Schulz and Bill Melendez (the animation producer) it would probably be the first and last Charlie Brown special.

Boy, were they ever wrong.

I think I'll do another Youtube search and see what I find.

If you ever post it, please ping me. :)
