The race 10 titanium alloy bathtub cockpit underside is hard to match or beat. Its fun to watch A 10 pilots practicing over semis and motorhomes on I 10 outside of Davis Month an AFB in Tucson. The drivers are totally unaware.
Race? Dang auto correct.
ah! the A-10 Thunderbolt II (aka Warthog) : one of the safest, most-reliable combat aircraft ever built.
But dang it! the girl wasn’t hit with the ugly stick, she was the ugly stick’s momma!
It isn’t pretty like a fighter, but it does have a beauty all its own.
The WartHog is like a helicopter, but more aerodynamic and way less counter intuitive.
P-51 Mustang?
Saddam’s fearless republican guard was scared sh!tless of the A-10.
Firing plenty-o-bullets through a prop is a definite problem.
High speed crop duster.
When I saw the first pic, I thought it was a late N model with some mods.
What might have worked was to have based it on the Grumman F7F or F8F platforms. I love what ifs . . . they never end. :)
I’m scared poopless of the A-10, aren’t you?
The PA-48 was cheap because it was simple. Like, World War II simple. The Enforcer actually began as the Turbo Mustang, which Cavalier Aircraft Corporation developed in the late 1960s with the P-51 as a starting point. More than a decade later, Cavalier sold the rights to Piper, which renamed the plane as the Enforcer.
Transfer the A10 to the Army.
nope, a simple interrupter mechanism, perfected in WW1.
some of the german planes were firing 23’s and 30’s through the prop.
“It isnt pretty like a fighter, but it does have a beauty all its own.”
If it is supporting troops on the ground, it is the most serenely beautiful airplane that they have ever seen in their lives, I’ll bet. Definitely better looking than tiny contrails 30,000 feet high.
A face only a grunt could love.
The A-10 is the red-headed stepchild of the Air Force.
I have a nerd boner for it.
just don’t get it caught in the intakes! LOL
