Not at all. I’m exceedingly proud of my ability to root out truffles ;)
Info?
I only read about it the other day. I guess the first volume is out in America but the others should follow shortly. It goes into the how/why of Section 9s formation and a younger Motoko Kusinagi. Still has Batu the the Old Ape, but with more and darker hair ;) The animation style is different too. But I’ve only seen a couple promo clips on Youtube.
Well that gives them a leg up on most of us... Figures.
One of the things I loved about the basset hound sequence was the blues soundtrack. The only thing wrong with the song, is that english was obviously not her native language because her diction was too perfect for the style. (I'd have to look up who it was).
:)
I have the Appleseed and Appleseed XIII disks. It was interesting seeing how they reworked essentially the same story twice.
Other than my unhealthy Basset fetish, that scene probably did more to humanize Batu than anything in the series for me. He’s always been a solid character and deep, but he’s the classic “Steven Segal” hard ass (I think they actually modeled him on Segal). There are moments where is does the comic relief bit sure and the Tachikoma thing as well. but that basset scene made the guy actually seem like a real live human.
“Appleseed XIII “
You mean the 3D one with “Dive for you” in the soundtrack? If so yes I agree. That was IMO a rework done well. But it absolutely was the same basic story. Both really good though.
LOL
The praise for ‘Her’ was baffling. If the OS character was just a girl it would be a routine romantic comedy. Bland as all get out.
The Appleseed graphic novels are tons better than anything Appleseed animated I have seen. It really sucks that Ghost hit so hard in a way, not that the TV stuff and movies we got from it weren’t brilliant but he just laid Appleseed aside. Now I guess all he does is sweaty girl nude pinup crappola as far as I can tell.

Yea, Appleseed could have been something huge. It had all the foundation of GITS and could have gone any number of places indefinitely.
I have to wonder if his well went dry or there were creator vs. corporate vision issues that led to him going the route he ultimately did. The guy was a rock star with GITS even before the first movie. I mean I’m not opposed to the finely rendered boob mind you but if you have talent and sit atop a goldmine, why not dig?
I always heard that the Appleseed manga was actually much more popular in the US than Japan at the time. It was one of the first Japan comics I can recall from my time on the comic scene, from eclipse with studio proteus doing the flip and translation. Blew most everything I had seen from US comics out of the water.
I did hear he wasn’t thrilled with some translation stuff but nothing about why he quit making awesome comics altogether. Every once in a while I look for interviews with Shirow, and have heard all sorts of stuff. If you squint you can have the appleseed world being later in the timeline of the GitS world.

Pretty much. I always kinda thought of it like that. All his productions I’m aware of are pretty closely related. If not the same time/reality, at least an alternate one. The one with the 4 girls in/with mech armor (the name escapes me) is in the Dominion Tank Police world IIRC and that could easily be in a corner of GITS somewhere. Appleseed, if you pretend that everything but the city is blasted earth, could be the result of the war prior to GITS. It could even be rationalized that since the city is cut off from the planet pretty much, it is in that world and the general population there only think the planet is blasted.
The tech is the same. the huge sentry robots from the movies are really just scaled up Tachikomas without AI. He seems to have had intentions at a much bigger shared (in some form) universe for his properties than ever got actualized IMO.
Hollywierd been remaking Classic movies into TRASH... Annie is another classic that is TRASH.
Commando... that was before The Terminator, right?
Nope. Year later.
