Terry Labonte returns to the #32 for 890th career start: Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Terry Labonte will be competing in the GEICO 500 with C&J Energy Services and the #32 Go FAS Racing team in Talladega. His start at the Talladega Superspeedway will be the 890th of his 37-year long run and 61st at the famed superspeedway. As a tribute to a legend of the sport, C&J Energy Services and the #32 team created a special paint scheme for Labonte, honoring his remarkable career in stock car racing's most elite series. Throughout Labonte's storied career, beginning in 1978, he has finished in the top ten on 361 occasions; 22 of those finishes ended with a trip to victory lane. Labonte's very first start in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series was at the Darlington Raceway with Duck Industries. At the young age of 21, Labonte finished fourth in the #92 car owned by Billy Hagan. A few short years later, in 1984, Labonte went on to win the first of his two championships in the #44 Piedmont car, also owned by Hagan. Following the '84 championship, Labonte encountered many ups and downs in NASCAR. The sport became more and more competitive with multi-car teams growing and sponsorship needs increasingly demanding. In 1994, Labonte signed with Hendrick Motorsports. This was an incredible turning point in his career, culminating in 1996, when Labonte went on to win his second championship in the #5 Kelloggs Chevy. With 12 years between his two championships, the second title was a significant triumph that helped define his career. Many of today's NASCAR fans and industry leaders still remember and cherish the second championship.
The paint scheme created by C&J Energy and FAS Lane Racing for Labonte at this year's GEICO 500 will include a replication of Labonte's first Sprint Cup car, his first championship car and his second championship car. Fans and members of the NASCAR community will recognize the combination of paint schemes from the cars that have defined Labonte and his extraordinary career: the Duck Industries car, the Piedmont Airlines car and lastly, the yellow, red and green Kellogg car. Since 2005, Labonte has run a limited schedule with various teams including Hendrick Motorsports, Michael Waltrip Racing, Petty Enterprises and most recently the FAS Lane team. Nemechek to make second attempt with RAB: RAB Racing will attempt to make their first Sprint Cup Series race this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. In six NASCAR Nationwide Series starts here, RAB Racing entries have earned one top-10 finish and four top-20 finishes. Joe Nemechek will pilot the RAB Racing #29. ToyotaCare will serve as primary sponsor. Making his Sprint Cup Series debut at Talladega Superspeedway, crew chief of the #29 Toyota Camry Matt Lucas has sat atop the pit box at the 2.5-mile tri oval six times in the Nationwide Series, boasting one win with Matt Kenseth in 2013 and a near perfect lap completion record (97.4%).(RAB Racing) the team attempted the Daytona race in July with Nemechek but failed to qualify.(10-15-2014)

Dogecoin and reddit return at Talladega: Dogecoin and reddit will partner with Phil Parsons Racing for the final time this season at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon. The partnership was made possible by funding from t-shirt sales after the team experienced an overwhelming demand for the shirts worn by the Phil Parsons Racing crew earlier this season. With presales reaching 6500 shirts in just 10 days, a partnership with Dogecoin and reddit was confirmed for the #98 Ford Fusion driven by Josh Wise at Talladega Superspeedway. Now, the team looks to extend both the partnership and creative fundraising into the 2015 race season. Earlier this week, the website TheDogeCar.com launched to share the story of the historical crowd funding effort that brought this sponsorship to life. Additionally, it also offers a new selection of merchandise to carry this partnership into the 2015 NASCAR race season. Available items include an "official Dogecar sponsorship coin" minted by Provident Metals, 2015 DogeCrew t-shirts, hoodies, and crew shirts. Preorders will be accepted through November 15, 2014, with the proceeds being applied to the 2015 race season. This weekend, the No. 98 Dogecoin / reddit Ford Fusion will have a slightly different look than it has in past weeks. Included in the paint scheme will be the word "dogecoin" written in Chinese characters to symbolize its status as a worldwide currency, and help incorporate the entire Dogecoin community on a worldwide scale. Earlier this year, reddit user and tech fan Denis Pavel noticed a plain black car with a driver he felt 'raced the wheels off the car' during a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The lack of sponsorship caused Pavel to think of some of the significant fundraisers that he's witnessed on the reddit platform, and drove the 16-year-old to utilize the Dogecoin currency to raise sponsorship funds for Wise. Talladega Goodyear Tire Notes: While teams in both NASCAR series in action at Talladega this weekend will run the same left-side tire code (D-4596), they will run distinct right-side codes . . . Sprint Cup teams will be on a new right-side tire code (D-4630) . . . compared to what these teams ran at Talladega in May, this right-side features a compound change for better wear . . . Daytona Rising October Update: Daytona International Speedway held a topping out ceremony Wednesday to install the highest piece of steel associated with its $400 million DAYTONA Rising project and celebrate the halfway point in the project. Florida Secretary of Commerce Gray Swoope and Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Director Jesse Panuccio were in attendance for the important milestone. As part of the event' members of the France family signed and unveiled a special commemorative plaque that was placed at the center of the steel beam (previously signed by the project's construction team). International Speedway Corporation CEO Lesa France Kennedy also spoke about the significance of the DAYTONA Rising project. Utilizing special DAYTONA Rising whistles' Barton Malow (design-builder for DAYTONA Rising) joined International Speedway Corporation employees as well as Daytona International Speedway employees and longtime ticket holders for a ceremonial command to raise the steel beam. To honor construction traditions' a tree was attached to the beam along with a massive American flag' Florida's state flag as well as flags honoring Daytona International Speedway and Barton Malow.

Larger High-Definition Video Boards for fans at Talladega: Talladega Superspeedway will host the most anticipated race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup at Sunday's GEICO 500. Fans in the grandstands will not only witness the spectacular action LIVE and in person' but will have the added luxury of seeing it with larger than life Sprint Vision Digital High-Definition Video Screens. The new screens are even bigger than what was showcased during the Aaron's 499 weekend this past May. In fact' there will be a new mammoth 40' x 80' video board which will tower above Gatorade Victory Lane' where many of the sport's top drivers hope they will be at the conclusion of 500 miles. Five video boards will line the frontstretch' offering fans in every grandstand seat an unbelievable view of the incredible content to be projected throughout the event weekend. The high-definition pictures will be even bigger' brighter' crisper and clearer. Talladega Superspeedway served as a test track for the new International Speedway Corporation (ISC) initiative in May. Rockingham Speedway avoids receivership: Like a real-life Rocky Balboa' Andy Hillenburg refuses to stay down. After spending the last seven years battling to revive the legendary Rockingham Speedway' the former ARCA racing champion has taken his share of lumps. Hillenburg and his partners returned NASCAR racing to The Rock in 2012' when the track hosted an event on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Trucks raced there again in late 2013' but a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event scheduled for November of last year was cancelled' with the sanctioning body saying that the track "failed to meet its obligations." Since then' there has been little in the way of good news from the Richmond County oval. Until [now]. Battered' bloodied' but unbowed' Hillenburg climbed off the canvas yet again ....' confirming that after a hearing in Richmond County Superior Court' a new plan is in place to save the track from financial receivership. Farmers and Merchants Bank of Salisbury' NC' had asked that the track be placed into receivership as a first-step toward seizing control of the facility and putting it up for auction. However' with the assistance of a group of advisors' Hillenburg has assembled a new business plan that he hopes will put the speedway back on solid financial ground. "We went in front of a judge recently and presented our proposal'" said Hillenburg. "We explained that we need 90 days to perform the necessary due diligence' and he issued a Bridge Order to continue the case until today. Now' he has approved our request' and the speedway will remain in our hands." Hillenburg stressed that the deal is not yet complete' saying' "Our request was for the procedings to be delayed' in order to allow us to assemble a new financial plan. We now have until Jan. 1' 2015 to finalize a workable financial plan with our new partners. 400th superspeedway start for Wood Brothers: Assuming Trevor Bayne successfully qualifies the #21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday' Sunday's GEICO 500 will mark the Wood Brothers' 400th start on a Sprint Cup speedway two miles in length or longer. Throughout their history' the Woods have focused on NASCAR's biggest' fastest tracks. And they've had some of their biggest successes on them. Nine drivers have delivered wins for the Woods on superspeedways with NASCAR Hall of Fame member David Pearson accounting for half of them. Another Hall of Famer' Cale Yarborough has six superspeedway victories for the Wood Brothers. A.J. Foyt has four and Neil Bonnett three. Hall of Fame member Dale Jarrett has one' as do Tiny Lund' Donnie Allison' Buddy Baker and Trevor Bayne' who got the team's most recent win in the 2011 Daytona 500.
