Well, I changed my mind again. I just purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio pair in metallic in the larger size (4.8). It cost me as much as the LGs that I’m sending back, but I’m getting steam in both appliances and everything I want, plus the oversized machines. And I TRUST Whirlpool.

My last WP set lasted 27 years, and the dryer was still good when I turned it in for recycling. The washer probably could have been fixed too. I think my husband broke it removing it from the laundry room because I’d had no problems with it before. The feet were sort of stuck in the wax on my old flor, so he rocked to to break it loose. In so doing, I think he broke the seal.

Anyway, I nearly got led further astray at the last minute. I feel like Eve with the serpent. My set comes in CRANBERRY (at a higher price, of course) but I resisted. I did pay extra for the metallic color.

I was so tempted to buy the little (3.8) Cabrio set for $1000 less, but I was afraid that the tub would prove too small after I’d been used to an oversize set all these years. The smaller set would not have protruded into the room so much, and it had a dryer door that folded DOWN like an oven — no need for anyone to change the direction of the hinges. I wanted to buy that dryer just for spite since it seems to be the last one in the market with that feature!

You chose another front loader washer?

No, no, no. Top loader. I’d never have anything but a top loader.

I can’t be led astray, and I won’t out of sheer necessity-when I build, I will replace the 20 year old Whirlpool washer and dryer-I’m determined to make them last until then.

I will have too many necessities to buy for a newly build place-no matter how much of the labor I do myself, or as crew supervisor-to splurge on what goes in the utility room for mostly only me and the pets to see-so it will be Whirlpool, white or a standard color, top load washer, of course-I also insist on my clothes and the washer smelling clean...

Whirlpool, Roper, or GE is what my serviceman recommended. He said to stay away from Maytag. Most of the Kenmores out now were built by Whirlpool too.

I refuse to pay extra monthly bills so it isn’t happening. Our cable and internet were out for hours today(thank you Comcast) but it wasn’t just us. This is why I don’t have a smart phone either, because I use a phone for texting and calls. I have a laptop to do computer things and I have a Garmin for sat-nav.

Yes, I think you would have been disappointed with a smaller washer and dryer. The last set I had were stacked, but they were medium size.
Worked out okay for me as I was doing washing for just myself.

Hope your new purchases work out just great for you.

Roper is Whirlpool. It’s like buying a Chevy instead of a Buick.

A washboard a a few bars of fels naphtha soap would come in handy for the end times...

They don’t make them like they used to be. They are the brand to avoid now. I like my GE so far. It has a deeper basket and it’s quiet.
