Hence the quarantine enforced with live ammo.

Give it 3 more weeks and it will be even worse.

WRT ZMapp, I just saw this—

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/who-scientist-begins-treatment-for-ebola/?

Article says that the clinic will not be using ZMapp as the supply of the “experimental serum” is exhausted. Instead, the treatment will be on supportive care.

So, it sounds as if there really is no more ZMapp at this time, as surely the WHO scientist would be given it.

Ebola Frontline: Life Inside a Quarantined Village

Jefrey Morison is a trained community health worker who grew up in Pujehun. He spoke with people after Kotuneh came back. “There was lots of confusion about what to do,” he said. The document said he did not have Ebola, but Jefrey urged everyone in the town to be vigilant. “I said, ‘You must continue to isolate him.’”

Kotuneh got worse, and he died soon after returning to Pujehun.

Villagers in Pujehun called the medical team to collect Kotuneh’s body. Everyone was scared. “Some thought this was witchcraft all along,” Jefrey told me. On August 11th, a close friend of Kotuneh’s died, and the villagers called the ambulance team again. This time, the ambulance took six suspected contacts away to isolation. Days later, they were all dead. Eight have died of Ebola in Pujehun so far.

This was a case of a false negative and Newsweek is reporting it.

Makes me wonder if a hotel employee was positive and worked anyways, or someone practiced really bad decon and brought it back with them. Or there’s a transmission source they’ve not discovered yet (insects, small rodents), OR someone is deliberately infecting the westerners and medicos.

Wonder how many other false negatives there are out there.

We’ll hear soon enough.

This is bad. Very bad.

I have very bad feelings about this,
that we are only seeing the beginning.
Afraid it won’t burn itself out this time...

“Trucks from DRC stranded at Kazungula Border due to Ebola fears in Botswana”

Economic impact ripples will be felt by all before long. I pity the trucking company owner whose profits are being eaten up by the delay. Not that I blame SA mind you. How long before international trade screeches to a halt because the participants are unwilling to take a risk that their products simply won’t be allowed into or out of a country?

Thanks for the link.

It makes you wonder just how many false negatives are out there, thinking they will just ride out that nasty stomach virus they have. “It can’t be Ebola, because I tested negative, so it must’ve been something I ate. Hopefully, this Immodium I just picked up at the drugstore will help...” Denial runs strong in many people. Even if they are supposedly under watch. Look at Patrick Sawyer for an example.

And not just false negatives, but asymptomatic people that have made it through airline “screening” which consists of a laser thermometer and questions about whether or not they have been exposed to infected persons. As if they ALL are going to tell the truth, for fear of being quarantined.

As the linked article demonstrates, the villagers being quarantined in Pujehun are sneaking off to their farms and hitching rides on motorbike taxis, so people will do whatever they have to do not to be quarantined, by engaging in various acts of deception.

Time will tell. But it is certainly concerning.
