Teachers reported Aug. 4, but students do not return until Aug. 7. Wow, kids return to school on August 7? Do they get out of school in May?

Here in Indiana, a lot of schools have gone to “balanced calendar” where you only have 8 weeks off in summer, but additional weeks off in fall, Christmas, and spring.
A lot of families seem to like it, as you can vacation at less busy periods.
