Voters simply will not forgive a candidate for not understanding the ramifications of his words.

Perry’s sneering “heartless” allusion-—indicated he thought he was better than voters-—but it showed his political naivete.

In politics the old adage still apples-—its not about how much voters like the candidate-—it’s about how much the candidate appears to like voters.

Great post!

Perry has the chance to be a historic figure. Sadly, I have no doubt he will just be another blathering fool who stands by while our Republic is turned into a third world sewer.

leadership takes courage, Perry is a GOPe coward who only cares about his political life not the life of his country.

Imagine if the founders of this country had said, "wah wah we have to do what the british say, they're the boss and we can't do anything to stop them."

exactly, to sit there and demean conservatives who actually want laws enforced with ugly liberal terminology ended his campaign because it was insulting as hell, and revealing.

But perry 2.0 hopes everyone forgets about all that. And hopes that conservatives will see him as a helpless victim of Obama's non enforcement, who would have done something but couldn't (even though he can).

Yes, but there was every indication that the same ruling would eventually be used by the courts to apply to higher education at state run colleges as well.

But that hasn't been done so why enact it as governor in 2001? And then when GOOD PEOPLE who care about this country and its borders say hey WTF are you doing? call them "heartless"

Again here is the answer to the problem. if an illegal applies for college, deport them. If their families are here illegally, deport them. Period.

Presuming that you have read the actual decision, PLYLER v. DOE, 457 U.S. 202 (1982), how could you possibly come to that conclusion?

The court based their decision essentially on costs to the school district, with the underlying presumption that they would eventually become citizens. The costs were fairly minimal given the small number of illegal aliens. They did not say that every illegal alien was entitled to a public education under all circumstances.

Texas' statutory classification cannot be sustained as furthering its interest in the "preservation of the state's limited resources for the education of its lawful residents." While the State might have an interest in mitigating potentially harsh economic effects from an influx of illegal immigrants, the Texas statute does not offer an effective method of dealing with the problem. Even assuming that the net impact of illegal aliens on the economy is negative, charging tuition to undocumented children constitutes an ineffectual attempt to stem the tide of illegal immigration, at least when compared with the alternative of prohibiting employment of illegal aliens. Nor is there any merit to the suggestion that undocumented children are appropriately singled out for exclusion because of the special burdens they impose on the State's ability to provide high-quality public education. The record does not show that exclusion of undocumented children is likely to improve the overall quality of education in the State. Neither is there any merit to the claim that undocumented children are appropriately singled out because their unlawful presence within the United States renders them less likely than other children to remain within the State's boundaries and to put their education to productive social or political use within the State. Pp. 227-230.

Many believe that Plyler vs Doe should be challenged citing the huge costs now involved. Here is a good article proposing such a challenge:

Are States Constitutionally Required to Educate Illegal Immigrant Children?

I’m not saying I agree with it, but that seemed to be the logic or justification for doing so at the time.

... and the HEB grocery guy ...

Is that Charles Butt?

And is there any chance of his family intermarrying with Houston's Hogg family to form an unstoppable Butt-Hogg dynasty?

“Thanks for this thread.”

You’re welcome. I think people should always know the full story. Yes Obama is an evil pig who is mostly at fault here. yes, congress is full of cowards and appeasers on our side who should do way more. But Rick perry could do more too, and IMO his prior liberal sounding words combined with his inaction on this matter should be taken into account next primary.

There’s a lot of yelling that Perry/Texas should “do something” about the border.

I’m SURE that everyone doing the hollering understands the border.

I’m SURE that they understand that the Texas/Mexico border is 1241 miles long...2.5 - 3 times as long as California, Arizona and New Mexico COMBINED.

I’m SURE that they understand that the Texas/Mexico border is longer that it is from New York City to Topeka, Kansas...or from Jacksonville, Florida to Midland, TX.

I’m SURE that they understand the Santa Elena canyon...where 75 yards separates Texas and Mexico and where 1500’ cliffs are on the opposite sides of the Rio Grande. The Rio Grande that you could wade without getting your knees wet most of the year.

I’m SURE they’ve been there and seen the Chihuahuan Desert and understand the futility of fencing it.

I’m SURE their states have offered Texas some of their own funds and manpower to help seal the border.

I’m SURE they’ve read up and studied on the increased DPS/Texas Ranger presence ordered to the border by Perry/Texas.

I’m SURE they’ve viewed the videos about the air and water equipment on the Texas border....paid for by Texans.

Know what? I’m getting a little tired of people who haven’t been here, haven’t lived here and don’t know anything but what they read/believe casting aspersions on Texans about what we SHOULD be doing, NEED to do, etc.

Before they do that, why don’t they quit their jobs and drive their cute little asses down here and do their part?

Or demonstrate how THEIR state has contributed to the protection of our NATIONAL border?

Or maybe, just maybe, act a little thankful for what Texas taxpayers ARE doing to try to stem the tide...sans Washington, DC.

Maybe that.

Perry’s not perfect. Texas isn’t perfect. But there’s no other state in the Union dealing with this issue at the magnitude we are.

How about instead of bitching, they show how they/their state is doing more than Texans are to try to stem the tide?

No? Then how about a little help?

No? Then how about a little appreciation.

No? Then, I’d appreciate it if they’d shut the hell up.
