An interesting corollary is that although water witching has never, in all the studies done, been proved to work the same could be said of prayer.

In the later case, it clearly does work for some people.

It’s been my experience in life that although we don’t always get what we want, we almost always get what we expect.

...just one of the mysteries of life.

First of all, there's water down below everywhere. So, wherever you drill will get to water.

Secondly, if the first well was sited by an experienced well driller and little changed to the topography, a similarly experienced well driller would likely choose the same location.

Some guys have a talent for it. I’ve seen them go mano-a-mano vs computer model-wielding hydrogeologists - and come out ahead.

The two wire witching technique is reacting to the magnetic properties of the minerals in the water or metal pipes or under ground wires.

I’ve seen it done, as well. I haven’t tried it, but my grandfathers told me they found water that way.

Water witching is real. There is no scientific explanation.

You have to see it to believe it.

Native Americans excel at finding water with forked sticks. I was a skeptic too, until I saw the “witch” not only find the well, but pace it off and tell us how deep to drill.

Some unexplainable force pulls the stick down to the ground over the water. When they back up, the stick comes back up. When they go over the water source, it comes back down again. I made the witch do this over and over and I had my fingers on the stick as he witched the well. The force of the pull was unmistakable, and quite strong.

He made a pile of rocks to mark the spot.

The water has been sweet and plentiful for 30 years.

Its real. In the South everybody gets the water dowser out to spot the site for the well. My sister and brother in law bought a piece of property outside Waynesville, NC. The downser came out marked the spot and the well guy drilled and and voila’.

I saw a guy exactly locate a well with two crossed over, straightened out coat hangers. He said “dig about 36 feet.” Shit, we hit water at 35’. He apologized.

I was always skeptical of water-witching although many folks I knew claimed it worked. In the early ‘80s I was a site superintendent of townhouse and apartment projects in Vancouver, B.C.

One fine day, after preparing an underground parking lot for paving, it was discovered that the drainage contractor had not mapped the clean-outs or runs of sub-surface drainage tiles.

Short of recruiting a dozen laborers with shovels, I was at a loss as to how to map and flag the pipes. One of my plumbing contractor’s men suggested witching; I laughed but gave it a try with two bent steel form-ties. It was uncannily precise and effective, even if inexplicable.

I’ve never had cause to try the technique again, but am no longer a “denier”. ;^).

Hubby can do it as well as his dad did. Uses just two wires.

Yes, it works. I use metal coat hangers or welding rod. I cannot tell what I found, how deep it is, gpm, or anything else, but something is there.

Yes, it works. I knew a guy who took a fresh cut, forked peach limb with the cut end up and a limb in each fist. He started walking and the tip took a dive for the ground. He marked that spot and then went 90º to one side and started walking toward that spot.

The forked limb did another dive toward the ground. Then he took another fresh peach limb and split the end, put a silver quarter into the split and held it over the spot by the thin end. The larger end started swinging left and tight and then up and down.

He counted the up and down swings and said, “There is water at 25 or 30 feet”. The owner drilled and got good water at 27 feet. That was over 25 years ago and the well is still producing good water.
