Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, who co-produced the Bible TV series and this movie, are Catholics. They don't talk in terms of being saved. Most evangelicals can tell you the very day or hour they accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. I went to a Catholic couples retreat once, and they put on a skit mocking people who said they were saved. The priest leading the retreat was in stitches.
I just saw it. Drove 60 miles to have dinner and watch the show with a dear friend. I did not see the Bible Series so can’t compare but this falls short especially if you are not knowledgeable about the Bible. I knew when they had the wisemen at the manger scene we were in for some inerrancy issues. The BIGGEST TRAVESTY OF THE EXPERIENCE WAS HAVING TO SIT THROUGH TRASHY PREVIEWS OF COMING ATTRACTIONS. DEFINITELY NOT FOR FAMILY VIEWING OR FOR THAT MATTER ANYONE’S VIEWING . . THIS WENT ON FOR A GOOD HALF HOUR! Except for my friend, I knew no one in the theatre and the response to the show was tepid at best and there was concern about the lack of opportunities for the non-saved viewers to get a Salvation message out of it. I found myself coming home to do a fact check in my Bible and suggest if you go, you do the same. Maybe it was the blatant omission of key scriptures or the inclusion of half scriptures such as Jesus saying “I am the Way the Truth and the Life . . . . the ending of that scripture never was given “no man comes to the Father but by Me” John 14:6
More time should have been spent sharing the Gospel on the Christian networks rather than devoting whole shows that spent time rehashing the making of the movie “fawning” over the producers.
May I suggest the following for excellent resources. They have just remasterd the Jesus Film in HD http://jesusfilmhd.com/ or the Voice of the Martyrs film Jesus He Lived Among Us can be purchased in bulk for next to nothing We gave out hundreds at Christmas time and are still distributing. https://secure.persecution.com/p-5088-jesus-dvd-sleeve-pack-of-20-englishspanish.aspx
So all that to say this. . .it was a disappointment.
Roma Downey is a New Ager. She loves books by Eckart Tolle. She also “talked” with her deceased mother through Jonathan Edwards. She also made a meditation CD for him. She’s not a Christian.
I am the Way the Truth and the Life . . . . the ending of that scripture never was given no man comes to the Father but by Me John 14:6
Unfortunately many are altering the Scriptures to fit their own agendas. They must not the last chapter of the Book.
REVELATION 22:18-19
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
I’m not doubting you. . .just haven’t read the facts myself. . the Christian networks and pastors in leadership positions have done the Body of Christ as well as unsaved seekers of Truth a grave disservice. They either didn’t do their homework or chose to ignore what they found.
The Bible series did have some good points, but she and her husband chose to "change" God's Word that compromised the entire series. That is a massive, massive no no.
She and her writers implied that Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed because of homosexuality. That message was completely altered.
Moreover, the scenes of Christ's suffering, torture and death were muted by her hogging the camera with her depiction of Mary.
While watching it, my wife and traded glances after she appeared on screen for the 27th time during His suffering. That scene was not about Mary, it was about what Jesus did for all of mankind. She just couldn't seem to help herself.
I think that they WANTED to believe her. They needed discernment.
Speaking about Mary - having a foul-mouthed rapper sing “Mary Did You Know” made me sick to my stomach.
I guess you could say she was a screen hog in this movie as well.
It was never about God.
Yeah. They have no respect. God will not be mocked.
I once was at a service where the pastor....claimed that Jesus was the prodigal son..who had in fact come to earth to wallow in ..§¶
needless to say....... I did not return there.
there are all sorts of people n all sorts of pulpits in this day and age.
I once heard an episcopal priest use the S word no less than five times....IN the Pulpit During a sermon.
I went into physical shock!
the wolves in shepard’s clothings are growing in number
A thought just occurred to me . .why didn’t they entitle the movie THE SON OF GOD. By their not quoting the entire Lord’s prayer and the entire verse John 14:6 I am the way the truth and the Life “no man comes to the Father but my me”, it leaves the movie really implying there are more than one sons of God and other ways to get to heaven.
My Pastor called something "crap' and then shrugged and said "What else are you going to call it?" lol
crap shows some respect for the “sheep”...
thus clown was reveling in the fact that he though he was getting away with saying chit, from the pulpit.
you could SMELL the evil
It’s sad what churches have become. But it’s the fault of the flock for not knowing their Masters voice.
Indeed. That and their itching ears....Im told!
Yup!
The too wide variety of churchianity that Ive witnessed over the past twenty years is truly appaling, and it doesnt show any signs of slimming down at thus point.
Raised in a Presbyterian Church environment....my first mistep back to “church” ...and a WIDE departure from orthodoxy... found me in a fellowship where if one did not “speak in tongues” one was more or less shunned.
I left there fairly quickly, I can tell you.
