they must test oil for adulterants now... great idea though, the oil on the cylinder walls with the right dope in it could work wonders

The question is what would be used.

Fuel + Oil mixed thins the oil and is corrosive.

The front range is experiencing a bit more snow at this time of year than I think I am used to... usually cold and dry about this time of the season. It started snowing last Thursday and finally stopped Sunday morning. We had a break until very early this morning, and it has snowed all day. Getting to the point that they can’t keep the roads clean.

Sweet! Nice Vintage stuff.

I’d like to see these “Kids” today run in that style.

Pretty sure most of them would drop some of the “’tude”

O.K. Everybody the start of Todays News.

NASCAR pit crews help renovate homeless shelter: "Normally go in and do some light duty stuff like some yoga and some rehab, but today's not quite like that," T.J. Ford says laughing. Instead they are getting in a workout helping with a long overdue makeover at Charlotte's Rescue Mission. "Yeah, you can tell I'm out of breath right now; carrying those 200 pound consoles upstairs takes teamwork-- just like pit-stops."
The men at the Rescue Mission have spent the last two months sleeping in the gym so the 1930s building can be completely redone. Everything at the mission had been here since the 60s.
Reverend Tony Marciano runs the mission and says, "The building had really deteriorated over that time; the furniture itself was probably 30, 40 years old, so we really needed to renovate everything." They're completely re-configuring the men's dormitory. It was military barracks style, but now they're going to have four guys sleeping in the same area. The idea is to build a bond between the men. Marciano says there's a good reason. "So if one is thinking of quitting there's three other men that if he has a relationship with that will encourage him to stay within the program. For addicts, finishing something is very difficult." They're hoping fresh paint, new floors and furniture will help the men realize they're worth a fresh start. "The old system reinforced the fact that they had messed up their lives; I hate to say that. With the new furniture it says your best days truly are ahead of you," Marciano said.
The men are supposed to be able to move from the gym to the newly redone dorms later this week. The renovations cost $400,000 and come from donations and from part of the non-profit's operating budget.(NBC Charlotte)(2-5-2014)

Hendrick Motorsports profiled on Showtime show tonight:

In a sport where their performance has to be 12 seconds or less, every tenth of a second can make the difference between victory or defeat. That's why NASCAR pit crews are so important to auto racing and why teams like Hendrick Motorsports are using athletes from college programs to make their pit crews the best they can be. CBS News correspondent on assignment, Jeff Glor, profiles a Hendrick team for the next edition of 60 Minutes Sports premiering Wed., Feb. 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.(PR)(2-5-2014)

Evernham leaves ESPN:

Former crew chief Ray Evernham, who created one of NASCAR's most dominant teams in the 1990s with Jeff Gordon, will serve as a consultant to Hendrick Motorsports where he will be involved with the competition department. Evernham made the announcement Tuesday on "SiriusXM Speedway" with hosts Dave Moody and Angie Skinner. Evernham, who has served as a consultant for Hendrick Companies since 2011, also said that he no longer will be a part of ESPN's NASCAR broadcasts. "Now not doing the ESPN thing will allow me to be involved in some of the management and some of the things that they're doing at (Hendrick) Motorsports,'' Evernham told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "The best way to avoid a conflict of interest is to choose one or the other. I'm excited about being able to go and being involved in the management team on the motorsports side.'' Evernham told "SiriusXM Speedway" that he is not seeking to be a crew chief - something he's stated often in the past. He admits he will be on a pit box, though, but in a different capacity. "I'll be working with everybody at Hendrick Motorsports,'' Evernham told the show. "I've met with crew chiefs. I think I've got a good perspective as they face different challenges. I will be going to meetings and be involved in competition things that I've not been involved with in the past three years or so." Evernham said he plans to attend about 15 races - nearly the same total he worked for ESPN.(MRN)(2-5-2014)

Yes, It’s rare to get a Good News story out of the hellhole that is Charlotte.

I wonder if lowes donated any items as they have a Huge Compound in Mooresville that does all the computer and electronic repairs for all the stores. Included in it is the TV Production Center for marketing.

AARPing!

Morgan Shepherd to attempt Daytona 500:

Support Military Foundation announced that Morgan Shepherd will be driving the #93 SMF Toyota at Daytona International Speedway in an attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500. The presenting sponsor will be named at a later date. If Shepherd makes the field he would become the oldest driver ever to compete in the Daytona 500. Shepherd, 71, most recently partnered with Support Military Foundation to become the oldest driver to compete in the Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire in 2013. The team is a collaboration of BK Racing, Randy MacDonald of MacDonald Motorsports and Dell Hamilton of Support Military Foundation/HMR. "Whenever you can break a record or make history, it's something special. To have Morgan in the car and the SMF presented on the car we couldn't be happier," said Dell Hamilton. "We are still looking for a presenting sponsor for the race, Support Military Foundation colors will be on the car but we are hoping for a presenting sponsor to come along and help us with this unique initiative."(SMF PR)(2-5-2014)

It would be nice to see Ol’ Wingtips in the race again.

For those that don’t know:

Oh yeah, and he drove wearing wingtip shoes. He said they were more comfortable and shed heat better. Since his retirement, little quirks like that, Curtis Turner driving with a pistol,(I hadn’t heard that one either) and Dick Trickle lighting (He had the crew install a cigarette lighter in the car and a holder for the pack of smokes on the roll bar) up a smoke under caution have been squashed.

And something I didn’t know:

On March 1, 2011, while staying in Las Vegas between races, the 69-year-old Shepherd chased down, tackled and restrained a young shoplifter who had run out of a Wal-Mart.
(Lucky for the kid it wasn’t Curtis Turner!)
