Isn’t that what Hinkley used on Reagan and Brady?
After Reagan was shot, I purchased an RG-14 (3 inch barrel version) and put it to the test.
I was on the Varsity University of Wisconsin Pistol Team at the time.
The trigger was horrible, barely useable in double action. I put a dab of whiteout on the front sight to make it a bit more visible.
After figureing out where to aim I was able to put six shots, from a rest, into about 3 inches, pretty well centered at 50 feet.
Not an easily repaired little revolver, and it tended to tumble bullets when they were fired double action, probably because of the “generous” cylinder gap and forcing cone.
Still, that little thing was used put down four grown men with six shots in very rapid fire.
As I recall, they were, President Reagan, Secret Service Officer Tim McCarthy, Press officer Jim Brady, and Washington Police Officer Tom Delehanty.
I believe that Hinckley loaded it with explosive .22 rounds called Devastators.
The amount of explosive involved is so small, it just makes the expansion of the bullet more certain. Has to have a fairly hard target to go off.
My very first pistol ever was a Rohm revolver, just like the one pictured.
I bought it from some street punk for five dollars.
It was well-worn, and a crap specimen to begin with. The hammer spring was so weak, it would set off the round about 50% of the time. Since it was so unreliable, I can’t tell you about lead spalling, because I didn’t put that many rounds through it.
I was so young and stupid. I probably took a chance with my fingers every time it fired.
