You obviously haven’t read my posts even though they are available. I post on many diverse topics and do not write like Chet99 - but I recall now that evidence and statistics don’t interest you. You rely on unfounded assertion.
You will have to excuse me now...I’m taking my pit bulls out to do their business one last time before we turn in. I hope you have a pleasant night in the world you live in.
I don’t have anything like the experience with dogs you do, but an experience with a chocolate lab puppy, the first time ever in water, and retrieving, made me a strong believer in the “nature” (vs. nurture) aspect of dog behavior. Yes, training can overcome a lot, but some behaviors are just hard-wired in. In our case, it was effective search techniques by a water dog working a retrieval. Completely benign. In the case discussed in the OP, we see not so benign case of hard-wired behavior.
On the subject of dangerous breeds, my FIL has a nice rental house empire in a small town. He does not mess around with people that violate their leases by bringing to the property prohibited breeds. He puts them on notice immediately and escalates quickly for non-compliance. The breeds listed in his lease are largely the ones in the stats table at the site you mentioned, which is here: http://tinyurl.com/cltvwd6
The stats table linked in my previous post says they’re only 4.4% of the dog population, which makes it even worse. I was surprised the percentage was that high, I rarely see the breed around here. I have seen a big increase in GSDs in the last 5 years or so.
Yes. I know some dogs lick some faces. In fact the dogs that killed the baby “knew him” and licked his face prior to the day they killed him. This kind of picture does nothing to refute all the death and maiming - it just says “See here is one that didn’t kill yet!”
It is also helpful in displaying the size and musculature of the dog. THe woman who tried to save the baby from her pets was attacked by both and knocked to the ground. Your picture is helpful in displaying what kind of mass and musculature the dogs have at their disposal when/if they snap. No wonder they kill more “successfully” the humans they attack.
Appears to be a different breed. The skull is shorter and the cranium more tapered. The nose is not convex as in the bull terrier. The eyes look a bit different, the ears are certainly different.
Some pits are passed of as bull terriers but they are two separate species. Pits have numerous names which change as their reputation follows them.
OK.
Anyone who drops their theft coverage because of owning a dog that could be easily neutralized in a number of ways by a determined thief, probably has poor judgement in other areas of life as well.
Your anecdotal experience with a few examples of a breed do not refute the statistical record. It is that simple. You’re like the person who doesn’t wear a seat belt because their uncle’s neighbor’s cousin was thrown free from a terrible wreck and made out OK while not wearing one.
I jumped from a tractor in a wheat field while it was travelling 15mph, and survived the beating I got from my Grandpa. This proves Tractor jumping is safe.
LOL
Very simple solution. Replace your kitty cats with mountain lions. End of problem.
This is why the pics of dogs licking faces repulses me - the stats say they kill so let’s photograph them licking someone.
The Dogo Argentino shares ancestry with the Pit Bull and both are classified as Molossor type dogs bred for pit fighting and both commonly show up on homeowners exclusions because both have aggression issues. It’s just that there aren’t as many pure Dogo Argentinos as there are pits - good thing too because Dogos are even larger! However, pit aficionados are breeding pit bulls larger and larger so now it’s possible to buy a 100lb plus pit bull - yeah that’s some fun, eh? Oh before pit nutters burst into tears I’ll add that canine organizations are refusing to register the giant pit bulls, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t pit bulls, it means they aren’t AKC or whatever registered.
Here’s a 140lb pit bull: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqhEDR85BJM

Oh I was wrong. That pit bull in the video is actually 150lbs. My bad.
Where I live the mail boxes for four houses are grouped together. If a dog saw his owner take stuff out of their box the dog might consider the whole group of boxes as his property to protect.
Just a thought.
