Hear, hear.

Vista and “LiveOne Care” we’re what convinced me to get off that merry-go-round.

So it took 23 years. I’m a slow learner.

Save yourself a little money, and buy a REFURBISHED Mac. Apple guarantees them the same as the new ones, but they are usually quite a bit cheaper. Refurbs are all i buy....and I have been buying macs now for a looooong time. AS we speak, the PowerMac G4 sitting behind me is serving out Quicktime Video files. It is 12 years old. And runs 24/7/365.

Get the larger one, but get the cable adapter to send your video out to HDMI and use a big screen TV for a monitor.

Thanks for joining the Mac community.

I’ve had about 10 PCs over the past 20 years on three or four versions of Windows and many service packs. Every single one goes into the toilet at 14 - 18 months. Unstable, takes forever to startup, frequent app and OS crashes. They start off ok, but seriously degrade over time. None of the utilities that are supposed to fix this help at all...in fact, they seem to make matters worse.

The IT Depts at several companies always say “It’s because you’re a power user. You shouldn’t put so many apps on your machine. You shouldn’t run so many apps at the same time. You shouldn’t have so many windows open.”

What a bunch of hooey.

Airbook 11" here. Purchased right after they became available-Nov. 2010. Excellent piece of equipment. Fast boot/shut-down time. Small-for travel. I don't watch DVDs on it so no need for such. It replaced my iBook from 2005..

The screen is small. However, you can get used to such. At the time I got it, many of the small handhelds were just not that dependable in terms of getting connected to net, maintaining such connection, etc. I would make a list of all the needs that YOU have. Then pick out, say 2 models and write down all the haves/have-nots to determine which will work best for you. Good luck!!

I won't fault anyone for buying what they can afford, but you don't have to buy new.
I refer you to comment #13 or you can buy used from someone who wants to upgrade.

On-line privacy is a big issue and I don't know very much about it.
But it's becoming more important every day.
Apple needs to make their equipment to where you can remove the battery, so you can really shut it down, when you want to.

But it's about software and not hardware, hence they need to write the programs so the owner has control,
and not allow the government to be able to turn the device on, and use it as an open mike and a tracking device.
Windows has the mentality that it's okay to put out an inferior product that they'll update later.
They make money selling security because they don't take the operating system's security seriously when selling just the operating system.
I can't tell you how many hours I had to spend in the military debugging Windows.
Plus Windows is a large target, due to market share, when it comes to malware and hackers.
Apple is a much smaller target, and they actually take their products' security seriously when they write the operating systems.

I'm done with Windows.

My iMac came with a wired keyboard, but it’s the slimmer version. I believe the wireless keyboard for the iPad is smaller. My oldest son has had his iPad here when he visits, and the separate keyboard is much smaller. If I’m not mistaken, he has the iPad, and the keypad all inside the carrying case. He usually takes his iPad when he travels overseas.

Talk about slow ... it took me thiry years, of trusting Windows when they said, "We'll FIX IT on the next release of the NEW Windows ... bla, bla, bla ..."

Boy was I ever gullible.

LOL, you apple disciples crack me up. You just can't accept that not everyone gives a sh!t about having an apple product, but what works best for the price.

In particular, iphones and ipads have been left in the dust in cost, features, and performance. Apple is so smart, they won't even let you use a different on-screen keyboard.

Windows automatically updates its self. I use AVG anti-virus which runs automatically every day and I use malwarebytes for anti malware. Both are free. I can't remember the last time I had a virus or malware. It's time for me to get a new lap top and I have been looking. I like my iPhone but I will not be paying 2 to 3 times the money for a Mac laptop. It's not worth it to me.

Like I said before, it's not about hardware.
It's about software.
Can you name a better operating system than Apple, that isn't prone to viruses and malware?
Ridicule is a mark of weakness in your debate.

You get what you pay for.
Windows wants roughly $200.00 for every new version, compared to Apple at $25.00 for the upgrade.
Then there's the Firewall you need to get, and a decent virus/malware Suite for windows, and that's money spent EVERY YEAR.

Think again about your so-called cheaper system.
Being a victim of Identity Theft ain't very cheap, and it ain't fun at all.

Keep telling yourself that. Better OS, linux and android to name 2. Again, I have zero problems with viruses in windows, and windows is capable of so much more both in terms of software and hardware compatability.

And you have no viruses or trojans on your mac... that you're aware of.

You remind me of an old saying, "there is nothing worse than a converted anything."

If you are happy with you mac, why is it so important for you to convert me?

I'm not interested in converting you.
I'm interested in responding to your charges, to show caldera599, who posted this thread, what I've experienced.
After over 30 of tolerating the inferior product of Windows, I finally listen to my retired military friends who said
